    Shaggy & South End Zone

While thinking about our horrible kicking game and then vomiting, I realized something kind of peculiar. Every big kick, or just missed kick in general, by Shaggy has been to the south end zone. The Mizzou kick a few years back, the Texas and Oklahoma field goals, and I believe the Iowa and Kent St. field goals of this year as well. He hardly seems to miss going to the north end zone. Is this a mental block w/ him or does it have to do w/ the backdrop behind the goal posts? Food for thought.

Re: Shaggy & South End Zone

If I remember right he missed the FG against Mizzou last year at the north end zone. He makes that FG and it doesn't come down to a holding call in Mac's last game. I don't think it matters which endzone he's in. If it's a big kick, I'm betting that he misses.

Please don't give me this most accurate kicker crap. If he was so accurate we'd kick the FG instead of going for it on 4th and 1.

Re: Shaggy & South End Zone

Very interesting, and now that you mention it, Shaggy does seem to miss all of his kicks in the south endzone. I know of a few misses in the north endzone, but it is very interesting how many of his kicks that he shanks in the south. Weird.

I was thinking the Mizzou kick that would have sent us to the Big 12 title game.

I believe the Iowa miss was to the north.

Re: Shaggy & South End Zone

I know this is harsh, but we're a Nate Kaeding-type kicker away from having about ten more wins over the last few years, and two Big 12 North Titles in our pocket. That's not Shaggy's fault; it's the fault of coaches for not finding a better kicker. If nothing else. We need a kicker with a stronger leg. Holy Cow...we kick a squib kick with the wind to start the game...embarrassing!

I think it's probably 90% mental and it may have something to do with the backdrop. I was at the game in Columbia two years ago when he missed the FG in overtime. The backdrop for that missed FG was the large M.

My guess is that he's having doubts in his head about where to aim. With an extra point, he just needs to kick it straight. That's why he's perfect on those. I believe that most of his misses have occurred when the ball is placed on or near one of the hash marks.

It probably doesn't help him to see himself on the video board right behind the goalposts. I wish they'd stop zooming in on him right before the kick. Sure, he should be able to handle it, but how about a little homefield advantage for the guy?

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

No, that missed kick was also into the south end zone. Then Chase Daniels got stopped driving toward the north end zone.

Oh no, that was the south end zone. I was there and our seats are towards the south endzone. It still makes me sick.

I'm pretty sure it was the south end zone for that one as well.

He has missed some big kicks on the road as well.

We should have gone into halftime of the OU game with a 13-0 lead.

Please name me even more than 5 wins we could have won had we made some FGs. I can think of 2, maybe 3. The obvious 2 are the Big 12 North clinching games and the other was the Iowa game a few years ago and even that one is questionable because 1 of those kicks was a long one into the wind I believe so even Kaeding might have not made it. After that I can't think of any games off the top of my head that the FG kicking clearly lost the game for us.

I'm not trying to defend Shaggy, I think he's been a choke artist when it matters the most that he makes a kick but how about the offense stepping up once in awhile so we don't have to relying on the kicking game so much. That white powder stuff called the goal line has been a mysterious substance for this team in the past 2+ years now.
