    Anybody have a "media fireplace?"

We're shopping for a TV/media stand for our finished basement. We also need some sort of heating solution as it gets pretty chilly down there, but obviously with spring here that is a lower priority.

So I'm looking at media stands in Homemakers the other day and stumble across a handful of electric "media fireplaces" like this one on display. This is a product category that I didn't realize existed until I saw this, but I'm intrigued...

So does anybody have something like this? The biggest question is whether the fireplace really works as it's supposed to and can heat a relatively large space.

I don't have that, but in my basement I have a corner gas fireplace that serves as my TV stand. I have a separate in wall cabinet where most of my components are stored and I run wires through the wall to the TV. Another option to consider, though I suppose you'd have a lot more work to do to put in a gas fireplace.

I'm sorry but that just looks bizzare.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Imagine putting your TV on that and watching "The Yule Log" at Christmas.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

I don't think I'd do that to my place, IMO

I'd shy away from the combo myself. That's a lot of heat to be generated around all your electronics. I'm sure it's insulated really well, but still, it'd make me wary unless I could go lay hands on one and actually see it in action.

Just buy a massive old plasma TV. I know my 4 year old Samsung can put out the heat.

That tv stand should have these flames on it

Looks kind of low rent to me
