    pre and post workout nutrition

My normal pre and post workout snacks are getting a little boring so I'm curious what everyone else uses besides beer. I have no nutrition backround whatsoever so I don't know if these are the right things to be eating or not.

    Normal for me-
    Pre-
Frozen blueberries and spark mixed together in the magic bullet
    or
rice cake with peanut butter and honey on it

    Post-
cup of strawberries, cup of milk, and whey protein in the bullet again.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Re: pre and post workout nutrition

Honestly, the preworkout snack that seems to work the best for me is a bag of potato chips or some pretzels. I think my body just digests them really easily and converts them to energy quickly. Rice is similar, but is slower to fix.

Post-workout I usually make a smoothie with any combination of yogurt, orange juice, frozen fruit, and protein powder (I guess this isn't really a change for you).

Re: pre and post workout nutrition

I usually dont eat 2-3 hours before my workout, mostly because of the supplements I've been taking. I've taken a lot of different pre-workout supplements and I really like Fast Twitch. It had the lowest caffine levels but also gave me the best results (granted I was on that the longest). Im trying CompleteNutrition's Buzzerk right now and its pretty intense stuff. Expensive, but intense.

Post workout I usually try to eat lean proteins like chicken or a lean beef. Steamed vegetables. Lately I've been enjoying homemade guacamole a lot. I dont like protein shakes because I'm not trying to put on mass any more.

does jack3d absorb/work better when taken with food? i usually work out on a relatively empty stomach. something very light only. i perform best when i consume little amounts of fat and or excess sugar (at any time during the day).

Re: pre and post workout nutrition

I have taken it without food, because I do a lactic acid/GH workout with zero rest between 4 compound exercises of 10 reps. If I ate the food, the food would come back up. Not fun.

Except the apple skin is loaded with toxins, everyone knows that.

Re: pre and post workout nutrition

Depends on when I workout for my post workout meal but I just use Jack3d with gatorade for preworkout then post workout:
AM-Shake with whey protein, ground flax seed, fruit of some sort, mainly strawberries and a Clif Bar

PM- Homemade shake as stated above, instant oatmeal with almonds or fruit in it...

Re: pre and post workout nutrition

It really depends on what your goals are. Are you looking to trim up and lose weight? Are you looking to get bigger and stronger?

For me, I'm looking to get stronger and put on muscle mass, therefore before workouts I like to get fast energy that is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. Post workout you can find me chugging either chocolate milk or a whey protein shake. Both of which are also absorbed rapidly. I will follow that up with a meal.

Agree on the chocolate milk, I grab one at the store if I cannot get my shake in.

Pre-workout: nothing because I just woke up
    Post-workout: a 64-oz Double Gulp from 7-eleven, usually Coke
