That's fine and all, but the Reds are still going to finish in 3rd or 4th place.

    Holy overpayment!

That's a lot of dough for a guy who hits around 29 HRs and 100 RBIs.

Agree. I'm more surprised they gave him 10 years. He's going to be pushing 40 when this thing's done and they're going to be paying him $22.5 mil/yr depending on how his contract is structured.

I guess they really didn't want him to leave.

Good for the reds to drop their load on him.........the brew crew and cards saw the writing on the wall and decided $25MM/year for a 1st baseman is not worth it. Lets see who finishes 1/2 in the standings. My money is on the Cards and Brewers.

I don't fault the Reds by any means and I certainly don't fault Votto. This contract just goes to show how bad MLB has become. Unreal. This could potentially cripple the Reds in the long term.

You would also think they would take a hard look at some facts and why 10 year big money contracts usually don't work out. It seems as though alot of baseball players have stellar years when their contracts are nearing the end; but when they have stability, they don't play near as hard.

Reds fans are excited about this? If they win more than one NL central in those 10 years I would be surprised.

They will by default. The central is easily the worst division in baseball.

    Re: NL Central Fans

The only thing that saved the Reds from getting torn apart concerning this deal was the fact that Matt Cain pulled the wool over the Giants' eyes yesterday as well.

I don't know if I would've made the deal. But thats just me.
