    KURE Record Sale

Just heard about this today. Anyone get any good finds? What are the hours for the sale tomorrow.

It's a bummer because when I DJ'd at KURE, they had a TON of great vinyl, but not much that was used because most people didn't do the type of music.

Sucks I have to miss it since I collect vinyl. I bet there's a lot of cheap **** there that's still fine and not too beat up.

What type of music would they be selling? I also collect vinyl but I collect stuff from the 60's and 70's.

Yeah, what I remember is that they had a lot of stuff from the 60s and 70s. Jazz and Rock mostly, and stuff from the 80s as well (metal/hard rock). I specifically remember Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche and A Space in Time by Ten Years After in there, as well as just random **** like Krokus.

I remember my friend had a classic jazz show and he played mostly vinyl on there. Not sure how much of it in general was 60s and 70s, but I do remember going through a few times and there being a number from that era. Record companies send in albums to the station to play on the air/review, so really, I'd imagine sometime until the late 80s or early 90s is when KURE was receiving vinyl from record companies.

The CDs they had were more alternative and punk, but they had just random things in there like King's X, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.. They have some "world" CDs there and some electronica as well.

For serious? Lower levels of Friley, passed by it fairly often on the way to the big open lounge they had downstairs. Never actually listed to the station, but I think that point is moot...

Yeah. Eh it's easy to miss and easy to pass on the radio dial. Honestly, at least when I did it, there weren't tons of great radio shows. There were a few..mine was definitely out of the ordinary on there. I played a lot of 60s and 70s stuff, and some 80s rock, but most of the **** on there today is the annoying emo/alternative ******** that will never see the light of day anywhere except a 50 person club in a random city. There were a few metal shows, a few electronica shows, a few jazz shows, and a few talk shows (news, sports), but most of the other **** was mostly garbage people played.

A few good shows, but yeah. The vinyl from back in the day is from when playing Hendrix or Led Zeppelin was "alternative." I don't know how good of condition they are in (i.e. how much they've been played) but IMO it's worth a shot. I'll be curious to know if they actually had anything left that's good.

For Reals Ctown, I am a Sports talk guy. My radio dial rarely see's FM.

Exactly. Just one reason I became a DJ on there back then. It was really fun regardless. You could pretty much play any type of medium in the studio - vinyl, CD, mini disc, straight from your computer, etc.

Lot of fun, except their "commercials" were you reading these things about the sponsors every :15, :30, and :45 of the hour (i.e. "Are you craving a giant burrito? Come over to Flying Burrito. They have massive.." blah blah) and the weather on :30 of each hour.

You could pretty much play anything too as long as there was no swearing. I accidentally played an Alice in Chains song once though that had a swear word. Luckily nobody who was listening cared to report us to the FCC ($50,000 fine). It's funny because the station was in Friley but the actual radio antennae were on the Physics Hall.

Guess they have two Sports Talk shows. I do know that one of them had Paul Shirley on (that interview posted in the MBB forum a week or two ago):

They actually have some decent sports programming on Thursdays and Fridays. Dan Tracy is always worth a listen 5-6 Thursdays
