    Kicking in JTS

As I'm still working to transition from basketball mode to football mode I came on the topic of kicking at Jack Trice in my head last week. I got to thinking about the somewhat prevailing thought among ISU fans that the open ends of the stadium allow the wind to affect kicking more than at other venues.

So, I did the best I could to analyze the situation by comparing ISU and ISU's opponents kicking success in games at JTS to games at other venues.

Any comments or questions are welcomed.

I'm leaning more towards the reality just may be that ISU doesn't have the caliber of kickers that their opponents do.

Nice! This is like a mythbusters episode. I hope this means we can put the wind myth to rest. Truth is we need better quality kickers. Especially when games are on the line. Big kicks at big times.

Looks like we lose half a point a game with our kickers.

I was disappointed an extra point was Suh'd, but Mahoney made me pretty happy in Lincoln.

So you were never happy with any of the perfectly executed on side kicks in the last few years?

    Re: Kicking in JTS

Very interesting stuff. Could the kicking game impression be coming from the trouble on kick offs and punts? The other factor may be kicks which simply aren't attempted due to the wind.

what about C-A-R-L G-O-M-E-Z? dude was pretty solid in 2000, especially considering he was actually the punter and replaced the regular starting kicker due to not being much of a kicker.
