Can we get by with only Booker and Gibson at the 5?

I hear we might be getting Lockett, which is great if we do, but don't we need another big man even more?

Booker and Gibson are all we have that can play the 5 spot next season. And no, Niang is not a 5... he's a 4 at the most. Realistically, Booker and Gibson are truly 4's as well IMO, but they will have to play the 5.

I just hope that Fred brings in Lockett along with another big man. That would be ideal, but it doesn't seem like many big men have ISU high on their lists right now?

I just think that the only weakness we might have next season is our lack of big guys down low. Just look at how big these teams are in Kentucky, Kansas, and Ohio State. Not that you MUST have huge size to be succesful, but it sure doesn't hurt.

I have a feeling the other scholarship will be filled by a JUCO big man, maybe. Pelle may still be an outside shot as well, not for sure though.

Big men don't grow on trees. While I agree with you, a proven scorer even if he is a guard would be valuble. Not sure how I feel about counting on Lucious, Babb, McGee, Ejim or Percy to consistantly put points on the board. THough no doubt they will have good games but Clyburn is the only one in that group you could feel good about making a game winning shot. Having another guy with that experience on the wing would bring the pressure off Clyburn a bit which would be huge.
Would sure be nice to get another big man though. I feel Booker is to foul happy and has a temper, don't feel good about him logging a lot of minutes each game and Percy, though pretty solid, not exceptional enough to put up 10+ points a game and defense needs to improve as well.
Make no doubt about, Royce will be missed big time next season.

Yeah, we lost a LOT of scoring with the departures of Scotty, Allen, and White. Not sure Clyburn can make up for all of that. Babb and McGee will have to light it up from the outside next year IMO. And I think that Niang could actually give us 8 pts a game too IMO.

I just get the feeling that Booker will be in foul trouble most nights, and all we'll have left is Gibson. Not too comfortable with that.

Don't forget we're also adding Luscious who will score next season. Clyburn could likely be a 15-18 ppg guy next year and in reply to the OP we will probably rarely have a true 5 on our team. Fred know's what he's doing so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If you ask most MSU fans, they will tell you Allen was better than Korie and Korie was never a consistant scorer at all. Only averaged like 6-8 points a game I think. I feel he is invaluble as a pg, but that still doesn't help the scoring hole we have. You never know who may step up but I think it's logical to be concerned about it.

Maybe we will be a defensive oriented team next year

I don't expect Lucious to be a dynamic scorer at all. As for the post, Booker, Gibson, Ejim, and Niang is a good rotation in the post. Whether or not guys are "true" 5's is irrelevant. We played all this year with White at the 5 and he is less of a "true" center than Gibson and Booker.

Is it me or does Fred not recruit enought big men. He is too focused on guards

It's just you. We have 4 post players next year. It's hard enough to get 4 guys playing time at two positions let alone 5.

Yes. Ejim, niang, and at times clyburn at the four. I think gibson has a great future.

We may just have to get by with that. We got by without a PG this year and it worked out pretty good.

Re: Can we get by with only Booker and Gibson at the 5?

This year we had White, Ejim, Booker, and Gibson playing virtually all of the minutes in the 4 and 5 spots. Next year we'll have Ejim, Booker, Gibson, and Niang. I'm not seeing why this is a huge concern. Gibson really didn't play many minutes this year so with him getting an expanded role and adding Niang we should be just fine in the post.
