LA Dodgers sold to Magic Johnson's group for $2 Billion

Los Angeles Dodgers selling team to Magic Johnson's group for $2B - ESPN Los Angeles

Sounds like most are pretty happy with this, and there are some pretty good names in this group. Magic has always been motivated to win.

Sounds like they indirectly burned a lot of money for future players hoping the broadcast rights saves the ship. James Loney better have a helluva year.

15 years at $5 billion should help get some players.

Re: LA Dodgers sold to Magic Johnson's group for $2 Billion

I heard that this may not be the actual price that they paid for the franchise and they get part of that money back thus in theory driving up the perceived value of the franchise.

For example say they write a check for 2 billion and then receive a check for 700 million back.

They technically paid 2 billion for the franchise but really only paid 1.3 mill. In the future, when trying to value the franchise they can say well we paid 2 billion.

None of this is important however just stating. And no source, heard it on satelite radio so you know its true.

Rumors starting to surface that the $2 billion bid was $600 MILLION higher than the next highest.

    Ouch.

They locked up Kemp and gave Kershaw a big raise. Ethier and Loney do need to have big years or they are gone. They didn't make any other big moves aside from almost landing Fielder. And keep an eye on Dee Gordon. He could be the best base stealer since Ricky or Coleman.

I'm pretty happy Magic is a part of the ownership too.

Re: LA Dodgers sold to Magic Johnson's group for $2 Billion

Pretty good deal for McCourt. He pays less than 400 million for the club 7 years ago (mostly borrowed money), spends Dodger income money for personal items like multi million dollar houses, gets divorced, runs the franchise into bankruptcy, then walks away with a half billion dollars after his wife and creditors get paid off. Pretty good profit for being incompetent, but as a Dodger fan I'm just glad he'll finally be gone.
