I don't see an unwinnable game on the schedule.

Tulsa- Slightly above average mid-major that lost its 3-year starting QB

@Iowa- Coordinators, NFL-level linemen, and McNutt are all gone

    Western Illinois- FCS

Texas Tech- 52-38, 41-7, and yet another new defensive coordinator

@TCU- A tough game to be sure, but we might be the best defense Pachall has faced as the starting QB. I don't really know much about Boise State's defense, and blowing out the Mountain West every week doesn't really tell me much.

Kansas State- Coach Rhoads must have a chip on his shoulder from these guys, and will get them in Ames for the first time in his career. How long can Collin Klein go without getting injured? And how long will the Wildcat's Glorified Wildcat work against Wally Burnham?

@Oklahoma State- We were the only team to beat these guys last year. This team without will be good, but a shadow of its former self without Weeden2Blackmon and almost the entire offensive line.

Baylor- No more Griffin. No more Wright (who managed to stretch our defense for their ground game). Nick Florence got to look good against a bad Texas Tech defense last year.

Oklahoma- Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma State. Who's next? Plus, they're a south team in Ames in November.

@Texas- Another tough one, but David Ash still has lots of room to improve. Stack the box and slow their running back tandem and we've got a chance.

@Kansas- I don't like how this game feels, but we should be the better team.

West Virginia- This team will be tired from traveling all the time and learning new teams every week. We can take them.

Will we win them all? Probably not. But this is the first year I don't see an unwinnable game on the schedule.

Thank you for clarifying with closing remarks. If you didn't have those, I would've assumed you thought the team was going to go undefeated which would have caused me to question your sanity. I think worst case scenario 4-8, realistically..7-5 and absolute best case ...hell 10-2 with losses @texas and @oklahoma st. Our QB's decision making along with our defensive line are going to be incredibly critical if this team wants to see an elevated level of success.

But wait a sec.....why dont we play AtM and MIZZ?

We have a lot of winnable games. The only problem is we have a new OC and we still do not have a solid QB yet. A team without a defined QB shouldn't have the bravery to say all games are winnable.

I wouldn't exactly call Messingham a new OC - he will be running the same system, using the same terminology. All they're doing is reducing the play volume on game days to simplify the gameplan.

I understand the QB issue, but we had two guys last year who gave us significant minutes and performed well in some high-pressure situations. I think both guys are good enough to win from a physical standpoint. Another year of repetition and maturity should help their mental game. I don't expect either of them to light the world on fire numbers-wise, but both should be more consistent. And I think that's all we need to get a couple more W's than last year.

OU always trashes us. I would say that is unwinnable but you never know with Rhoads and crew!

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

We're going to beat Iowa. If Iowa didn't have one of the worst schedules I've ever seen in a non-ACC/Big East BCS conference, they would be looking at no bowl game.

Disagree. Iowa loses a lot, but so does isu. Game would be a push on a neutral site, home team takes it.

We don't lose a lot. Most of our losses were in depth areas too.

Re: I don't see an unwinnable game on the schedule.

Here's my question...do you think it will hurt or help us to have an offensive game plan that is not as enromous as last year. On one hand, I can see the positives - more reps on the plays to be run during the week. On another hand, is there a danger of becoming too predictable with what we run? I would think having Barnett and Jantz back that having a similar game plan to last year might be better, but I never played football so can't really say one way or the other.

Either way, I think we have the potential to win 8-9 games, including a bowl game. But like somebody said earlier, it's great to look at the schedule and not be able to say, "we definitely won't win this game".

It's a done deal, bos. I'll come read transcripts of Rhoads' locker room speeches to you every day.
