Gartner thinks Iowa, ISU should contribute to UNI Athletics

Gartner on UNI, part 2: Regents or Legislature should tell U of I, ISU to share athletic funds | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com

Nowhere is it written, in law or policy, that a school’s athletic department can keep all its own money, that it can’t return some to the university — or to one of its fellow regents schools. So the regents could — and should — simply tell Iowa and ISU to hand over the money to UNI.
Gartner is the former head of the board of regents, used to run the Ames Tribune, etc. He's a co-owner of the Iowa Cubs.

    This should be fun.

Re: Gartner thinks Iowa, ISU should contribute to UNI Athletics

Let's see - hmm... ISU hasn't reached "the black" yet (last time I heard), and Iowa isn't terribly far over itself.

    How 'bout "NO!!!"?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Don't we already give UNI enough money by electing to play them in football and basketball?

never gonna happen, political suicide for anyone who considers this. uni will become The University of Oowa - Cedar Falls (formally ) before this happens.

Re: Gartner thinks Iowa, ISU should contribute to UNI Athletics

While this statement is really weird and stupid at face value, I wouldn't be opposed to both Iowa and Iowa State playing UNI in home games every year in both football and basketball, which would have the effect of subsidizing the UNI AD budget. We pay money for bodybag games every season, why not kill two birds with one stone and send that money to an in state school? If I remember right UNI football is going to have to take two bodybag games a year anyways to balance their AD budget. I think making those games ISU and Iowa would be good for the state.
