Reporter Lists Hoiberg as Blazers Coaching Candidate

Jason Quick, a Portland Trail Blazers reporter for the Oregonian, tweeted today that Fred Hoiberg is a name to 'keep an eye on' in the Blazers' coaching search. Obviously don't think we have anything to worry about, but the name Fred's made for himself already is pretty remarkable.

Not worried at all, cool to see how much he has progressed already though!

And so it begins. I have a feeling he will be on a great many lists in the near future. Hopefully this is his Dream job, and the contract to keep him and his staff comes from the Athletic Department.

This will happen multiple times per year from here on out...... Just be advised that like Ferentz to the NFL became a yearly thing, this will as well.

Hopefully he will be able to get a bump in his contract based on these rumors and that is it.

    I would cry.

But I don't see it happening any time soon.

This is awesome. If the NBA wants you, you're doing something right. Also, Portland sounds a hell of a lot better than say...Creighton.

Re: Reporter Lists Hoiberg as Blazers Coaching Candidate

I'd probably go into a deep depression for days if he left after two years. It's not going to happen but it's awful to even think about.

Re: Reporter Lists Hoiberg as Blazers Coaching Candidate

I wouldn't be concerned. Not because Hoiberg isn't a good coach, but I don't see him wanting to leave.

I would be willing to bet that his name will come up for almost every NBA job in the next few years. He coaches the college game like the NBA game, so people would know what they were getting. He is gaining a reputation as a good coach. He has proven he has the temperment for the NBA game. He's basically a no-brainer and if an NBA team has an opening, they'd be stupid not to look at him.

I obviously think we don't have anything to worry about, but I think if Hoiberg leaves Iowa State it will be for an NBA job, so I'll always be a bit concerned about it.

Just an FYI, but I am pretty sure that Mike Born is in the Blazers front office. Maybe head of scouting?
