RE: 2ndCyCE's post.. if I was from St. Louis, I wouldn't claim being from Missouri either. I love being in St. Louis for Cardinals' baseball. There aren't too many "baseball cities" around anymore, but STL is the prototype.
I love St. Louis as well, and although I am in no way a Cards fan, I think the passion they have for baseball is awesome. But the way that some claim St. Louis but not Missouri has the same ring to it that many hate of the Hawkeye fan base -- students come from Chicagoland and become Hawkeye fans but hate on the entire state of Iowa. WTF? Don't like it? Please leave!
As a Cubs fan married to a Cardinals fan and St. Louis native, I can tell you that St. Louis is much the same way. They are a pro sports town - specifically, a Cardinals town. Kinda makes you feel sorry for the Rams, who are behind even the Blues in the pecking order.
There is an elitist air to many St. Louisans - just ask them, and they will tell you matter of factly, "I'm not fom Missouri; I'm from St. Louis."
Can you blame them? Who wants to be known as being from the state of Missouri?
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
