    Mayoral Tenure?

Just curious. It clicked during the Kentucky game, I think, then they talked about CFH being 39 years old. Interesting. So, what do you think? And I mean think, because "hope" has the obvious answer.

Does Fred coach here another twenty-five years or so, building Iowa State into a perennial major powerhouse?

Or does he build up the program, then after several more years take off for a lucrative job in the NBA?

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

I think Fred will be coaching in the NBA within 5 years.

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

I think he is here for a while.

But I also think he really likes the NBA game. I could see an NBA job very appealing to him at some point. And I think that if he wanted an NBA job today, he could have just about any one.

If he wanted an NBA job, why did he leave one to come here?

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

Fred will retire from coaching sometime in his early 70's. All of those years will be spent at ISU. With Fred I don't think he cares about any other coaching job than the head coach at ISU.

He probably would have tried to get an NBA job at some point if this job hadn't come open.

Honestly, I kind of feel that if he ever fizzles out at Iowa State that's what he'll do. But he does talk an awful lot about the NBA and models his coaching around the NBA game quite a bit.

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

Him and his wife are both home, close to family, in a job where he's successful and borderline worshipped and I think his kids are in school.

I could see him staying as long as we'll have him.

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

If this is truly Fred's "dream job", I don't see how he leaves it after less than 7 years on the job.

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Seems like a good strategy when your goal is to recruit NBA-caliber players.

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

I believe him when he says this is his dream job. Maybe he would leave for an NBA job someday, but I tend to doubt that.

At the very least, I think he would stay in Ames until his kids are grown up and done with school. That would be 10+ years.

I think he coaches at ISU for about 10-15 years then moves on to the NBA.

I think it will be when one of his sons takes over for him

Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

At the rate Fred is going just two years on the job, I don't see us voting him out of office at any time. Which is a relief because it would be horrible to have to fire him at any point.

I think Fred stays here for 20+ years until he decides to retire. If he's here more than 10 years we can pretty much lock him up for the rest of his coaching career.

    Re: Mayoral Tenure?

I don't see Fred going to coach in the NBA, he's already had front office jobs, that's where he'd head if we went to the next level. I think he'd only leave for GM type job. Much more prestigious that an NBA coaching gig, they make all the big decisions for the franchise, and some (Like Pat Riley) basically coach too. Sounds right up Fred's alley.

I see this being the only place he ever ends up coaching.
