Yep, but only from his time at Colorado St. Didn't know he had been coaching for as long as he has been.

Re: Had you heard of Tim Miles before today?

I remember looking at his Wikipedia article before the tournament when CSU was on the bubble. Wouldn't have been able to remember his name 20 minutes later.

Heard his name being tossed around again a few days ago for the Nebraska job, though. I don't see him as that much of an improvement over Doc...

He was announced as their coach this afternoon. I thought they might open up the checkbook and break from their tradition of promoting mid-major coaches this time, but I was wrong.

Tim Miles is a great coach and person. Had the privledge of knowing him during his time in Aberdeen, SD while he was an assistant at Northern State. He will be good for Nebraska. Congrats to him. Very well deserved.

Re: Had you heard of Tim Miles before today?

Seems like Nebraska is dooming themselves to the same old fate. The guy is a good fit, but the same questions remain: Can he recruit at a high major level. To compete in a conference like the B11, you need to have at least one NBA player on your roster and some other guys who are near that level. Mid-major coaches usually have issues bringing in those types of players...unless they were former assistants at big-time schools...which Miles has never been.

I thought that maybe they'd open the checkbook and take a shot at a big time name. Someone like Bruce Pearl. I'm betting this hire scares absolutely no one in that conference.

As much as they would like to think otherwise, NU is just not a good job. No tradition, second banana to football and in the cellar of a tough conference. If Tom O is willing the funds are there, but until things change NU is not going to get a name coach to come to Lincoln.

He has a solid resume and is reportedly a great person. If he can recruit and transition to high major BB, he could be a very good hire.

Thad Matta coming from Xavier probably didn't scare a whole lot of people when he went to OSU either. Just because he came from a midmajor doesn't mean he doesn't have the personality to recruit at a high level.

Program might be a little too much credit. That would seem like there was some sort of orgaization and support. Let's just leave it at Nebraska has a basketball team.

I voted yes. Had you asked about before this week, I would have answered differently.
