    Mike Leach at it again.

All I can say is wow..

Eye On College Football - CBSSports.com Mike Leach wants a 64-team playoff

No way this would work...Iowa State would be in the dance every year basically, which is great but we don't deserve to be in it til we hit the 9-10 win mark consistently.

    What do you guys think?

I would say maximum would be 16 teams for a playoff, and that would be stretching it. He thinks 16 is a minimum. He is a little crazy.

I personally am in favor of the +1 model. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3... the winners play, and you could have the losers play too. Then there would be a recognizable #1 at the end of the year.

I'd like to see a 24 team playoff, with the top 8 getting a bye. The most likely champion would play four games (at most 5). If everyone pared down to 11 games, no conference championships and no bowl, that's one extra game in most years, two at the worst.

i just like the plus 1 method. make the regular season count and be important. not very often where you complain because the #5 team didn't get a shot at the NC

This. At the end of the year, you know who the real contenders are. Beyond #4, rarely is anyone getting screwed out of a shot.

Seems as though that is the mindset of the old system- that only the very top teams should have any shot. The bowls are pointless, so why not redesign a system that replaces it?

The "regular season matters" argument is an excuse for the old system. It matters in basketball, but one bad night does not doom your team to irrelevance.

As I said before, I favor a 24 team playoff, but I'd also be excited for 12, with the top 4 getting a first round bye.

If you're going to go past 8 teams, I'd rather see 64 than 16.

ISU would NEVER be in the field of 16, and 16 is big enough to kill the bowl system. 64 gives us something to play for.

Re: Mike Leach at it again.

A 64-team playoff would have to mean essentially ending the FBS/FCS divisions, right? 32 would make some sense, because it would basically be the conference champs + the remainder of the top 25. Of course that would probably still screw ISU most years.

My guess is it will start with this plus one model and when everyone sees how successful it is it will bump up to 8 and then far far far in the future it could go to 16. It takes a long time for old rich guys to accept any kind of change.

A coach with no chance to get into a plus one are pimping a playoff system? Weird.
