Nice write-up on Leonard. I agree.

LJ will make someone a heck of a cover 2 corner, his speed didn't hurt him at ISU, I don't see it being a big deal now.

Re: From Denver Post re: Leonard Johnson...

You can scheme around a guys lack of speed. I wouldn't put him on an island with the Mike Wallace's of the world, but I wouldn't want to do that with any other corner either.

The only issue with lack of top end speed is the inability to make up for mistakes on deep patterns or double moves. Again, I think that's something that can be schemed to help protect him.

I'm guessing Denver was probably at the Pro Day as well. LJ ran in the 4.5 range at the ISU Pro Day, so that should help ease some concerns with his speed.

"There are better athletes than Johnson awaiting the April 26-28 draft, but Johnson could be a better NFL player than a lot of them."

This simple statement is why some organizations seem to whiff more than others in the drafts. Some of the top decision makers can't seem to get it through their heads that better athlete does not necessarily equal better football player.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

Funny, that was the face that I was picturing in my mind while posting that. What are the odds...

No worries; he always made me laugh. Not a lot of fear for a guy who generally beat himself before the season even started.

Say what you want about Leonard, but he was a helluva player for us and I'd love to see him get some time at the next level.

Not that long. Al Davis was the poster child for that line of thinking, especially later in his life.
