3 year contracts with NBA team able to add 2 option years. The team cap can be exceeded for rookies.

All rookie contracts signed with first round picks have a term of two guaranteed years with two separate one-year team options for seasons three and four. If the team wants to exercise the first team option, it must do so during the period from the day following the end of the player’s first season through the immediately following October 31. If the team wants to exercise the second team option, it must do so during the period from the day following the end of the player’s second season through the immediately following October 31. Re: What draft position does Royce need to go pro?

Personally, I think he needs to be projected as just outside of the lottery. He's been projected as a late first rounder, but that projection didn't include any players from overseas. That's a big risk to take, IMO.

If I was Royce and I am not I would have to be in the top 15 picks or I stay.

The question is how much can he improve next year to get himself inside that top 15?

It's more that the next draft class won't be as stacked. It will be more clear once we find out which lotto picks are staying or going.

I would expect that with the laoded draft class this year, developing a jumper and being a known commodity for the whole season would benefit him greatly to stay. Plus it's less of a gamble to leave after your junior year rather than your sophmore year.

If he is not a lottery pick he should stay one more year. He has the talents to go lottery and he could earn a lot more money next draft if he stays.

However, if he gets projected to the lottery he should go, no questions asked. Look at Sullinger, he held out and fell from the top 5 top top 15. That is like a loss of many millions a year.

Re: What draft position does Royce need to go pro?

I'd agree that he'd have to be in the top 15. I've seen a couple of draft projections and there weren't any foreign players. If he's projected late first round now, some of the foreign players might bump him to the second round.

Sometimes there's a misunderstanding of the phrase "raising one's stock". White may or may not improve much as a player, but this is one of the most loaded draft classes in years. Guys like Fab Melo, Doron Lamb, and Kris Joseph are projected as late first/early second round picks, when in most years those guys are locks to be in the top 20, if not in the lottery.

White doesn't necessarily have to improve as a player to make a ton more money in next year's draft. It's the same reasoning (only in reverse) that goes in for some guys who leave early when they aren't really ready for the next level yet, but the next class is so strong that they actually could stand to lose money, even if they improve as a player.

Agree. There are always surprises, especially from overseas. If he is a late first round projection, that means early to mid second round in reality. I think he better have a real good feeling about mid or early first round to go this year.

Sigh. Another fan who thinks Royce isn't capable of improving. Are you guys kidding me? He is still shaking off the rust from not playing for 2 years.

Re:What draft position does Royce need to go pro?

He's projected 1st rd now, without having had a chance to showcase himself to teams. When he gets to talk with teams, workout for them, prove to them he's not a risk, he'll move up.

He's freakishly strong, when any opponent tried to move him last weekend, he was a brick wall. His bench reps were better than any player in the draft last year...
