What I am going to miss most about ISU

I was reflecting today while I was in the Gerdin computer lab, I was thinking about all of the great times that I have had in Ames. One memory stuck out in my mind, and it takes place in Mickey's basement right around bar time. My best friends and I all singing and dancing "SHOUT". I am almost in tears thinking how close it is to the end. Does Anyone have any encouraging words about life after college? Or what it is like to live/work in West Des Moines?

    OK...I gotta see it.

There are plenty of great moments...having money, marriage, having a baby...but you will never be this free again. Enjoy it as ISU was a great 4 years of my life and I still look on it with nostalgia...and it wasn't even very long ago.

    Two words of advice.

Graduating in 4 years is like leaving the party at 11pm.

    and...

"College is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes."

Enjoy it while you can, you can't ever go back to the greatest years of your life.

It's all about attitude. I, for example, am absolutely CERTAIN that the greatest years of my life lie before me. (I'm 43, btw.) Attending Iowa State was great, but if you spend your life looking back, you'll miss out on all the cool stuff that is coming up.

Find something that is your passion, and do it.

And, remember, you can always get advanced degrees.

I had a great transistion out of college, got a great place to live close to the bars... It was pretty much the same for a couple of years, I just had money now and didn't have to give plasma for beer money.

Honestly, I love my life right now more than I did in college. I'm having a blast, and trust me, my job ain't that cool. Like others have said, it's an attitude.

I don't miss college per se, I miss the friends and relationships I had while in college.

I really don't miss be broke all of the time......one can only handle so much ramen noodles and Natty Light. Spaghettio Suprise or being so broke that your Hamburger Helper has been renamed just "Helper".

Whatever your dream is, go after it, hard. Right now is best time in your life, when you have the most flexibility to do so. That temporary job "until" can turn into 20 years pretty quick. Don't settle down and have kids too early, but don't wait forever either. It's an awesome feeling, and it's even better when you realize that the world doesn't really revolve around you.

That's exactly how I feel. When I was playing on the paintball team those guys were all like my brothers and I've only seen one of them since I graduated 2 years ago. 2 years isn't a long time but when you spent more time with people than you did working on homework (sorry mom and dad) you grow really close to them.

"Stay as long as you can" that is great advise I got from an older guy in my house when he graduated so I stayed five years. It's not bad if you get season tickets that will get you back to ames enough during football season. I think for me it was an easy transition because of the season tickets and there are a ton of ISU grads that I am friends with in KC.

    Elderly - Ouch!

Seriously, It's like I'm in my second childhood. My job is cool, I live in a freakin' brewery in Europe, my wife is smokin' hot, and my teenaged daughters are respectful, well-behaved and get good grades. I'm >almost< in better shape than when I boxed in college. I've finally gotten ahold of my financial life and I feel "at peace" with who I am.

I look forward to what comes next. Truly and honestly.

Get out of school as fast as possible. Life outside of school is so much more fun. You finally get to buy a nice car, get to have a nice TV, can go out to dinner, or buy good beer whenever you want. Work is easier than school, and hopefully your job is more interesting than homework. And at 5:00 you are done, no studying, no papers, no nothing, it is your time.

Of course then you get married and it is all her and our time, and then life is over my friend.

You get to go home at 5? Get his job... Oh, and definitely enjoy the after college single life - they were better than college in some ways. Wife and kids are great but WOW a lotta work. I agree with whoever said don't waste time looking back though.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.
