    Basketball Referees

I've wondered this for awhile but with the NCAA tournament/NIT and such going on I really got to thinking who organizes the officials in college basketball. I know each football conference has their own, but is this the same for basketball? I believe I have seen several refs do games in Hilton and also at B1G games later in the season. Anyone know how this works?

    Re: Basketball Referees

The NCAA organizes it specifically so that they can screw Iowa State.

I always figured the Freemasons had control over the officials.

    Re: Basketball Referees

To give you a serious answer, typically each conference has a head of officials that is responsible for scheduling and determining who officiates each game. Officials can be a part of many different conferences, and often are, so that they are able to officiate multiple games per week. I'm not 100% on how the selection process works for post-season, but I believe that each conference can nominate officials into the pool and the NCAA head of officials will select from there.

    Re: Basketball Referees

Here is an interesting website that tracks stats of ref's (games worked, fouls called, etc.) Most ref's work 3-5 if not more games per week.
