Big 12 sucking in the dance

hate to admit it, but the Big 10 was a much better conference this year.

Kinda hard to judge when the B10 played vs lower seeds compared to the B 12. But lol @ Mizzu, did you know they are in the SEC?

The Big XII has won all the games they were supposed to win and lost all the games they were supposed to lose. Not sure how that's defined as sucking

*Missouri = SEC. Not Big XII.

Michigan won a share of the Big 10 title, and they lost to Ohio.

Iowa State and Kansas State both had to play #1s second round, so it's hard to say it's "sucking" that they didn't win.

Texas was on the bubble in the first place and only got in because we choked.

Missouri, well, yeah, that one is a mystery.

Re: Big 12 sucking in the dance

Well, ISU and KSU got knocked out by 1 seeds. Mizzou is an SEC team. Baylor and KU are still playing. Texas lost to a great Cincy team.

So far the only Big 12 team to lose in an upset is Mizzery. I think the Big Ten is very good this year, but I don't think you can cite the tourney as proof.

I don't know whether it's true or not, but I do know as far as guessing brackets, the following is a good guideline, on average:

    1. B!G teams advance further than their capability suggests.

    2. Big XII is the opposite.

Re: Big 12 sucking in the dance

Benefits of seeding. No seeds lower than #4, except for Purdue, which can benefit from being a #10 instead of an 8/9 when they get into the second round. But the Beakers will have something to say about it. Their match ups to this point have been easier, obviously. The Big 12 had two teams face #1 seeds in their second round. Texas barely met the qualifications to be in the tourney at all this year, and obviously Missouri wet the bed. Baylor continues to play well in spite of HC Scott Drew.

Addition: It explains why I picked (10) Purdue over (2) Kansas in two-thirds of my brackets.

I may end up being wrong, but it seemed completely plausible when I did it.

Re: Big 12 sucking in the dance

Big Ten seems to have a more consistent identity with teams that routinely make the tournament.

Izzo is entrenched at MSU, and his teams rarely play below seeding. (The George Mason season is an exception)

Matta has done OK, but not superbly — reliable in the tournament.

Ryan's teams are the most faceless among frequent Sweet 16 teams on the planet, but it still happens. It's like Olsen-era Arizona without the loaded rosters. Or Gillespie-era A&M with better seeding.

I think Big Ten does better among teams that aren't seeded highly (4 or 5 and downward); Big 12 does OK if teams are among top 4 or 5 seeds (with the exception of '01 — geesh. Look that one up, if you can stomach it)

Your posting rights should be revoked since you don't know WTH you are talking about. Or your just an undercover Hawk fan.

Wisconsin and Indiana's next games are against the teams that just knocked out ISU and KSU with out Samuals, arguably their best player. IF they win those then I can agree with you. If they lose them it just means due to their over seeding they got one more easy game then ISU and KSU got.

If Pudue beats KU then you will be correct. If they don't. It doesnt mean a whole lot due to the seeding.

Re: Big 12 sucking in the dance

I agree with the other posters that a lot of it has to do with seeding.
I really feel like ISU would still be dancing if we had played anyone else besides that pro team from Lexington.

"The Big 10 has only done better in the tournament because of seeding."

Well, yeah - they got better seeding because overall the Big 10 is a better conference than the Big 12. I don't get why people just can't admit this.

Hard to admit something that isn't true.

This thread reminds me of B10 fans defending their conference's poor bowl performances by complaining that they have tougher matchups.
