Does Whitlock have anything better to do than talk about hip hop culture in sports? His article about the NBA All Star weekend in Las Vegas was mostly crap, now this.

Such as? He's speaking his mind of what is ruining the various sports. It's refreshing to have a columnist who sees the larger picture of how sports relates to everyday life, and vice versa.

I for one, completely agree with him and found it an excellent read. His points underscore the main reasons I don't watch NBA games any longer and what constant irritates me about the NFL.

Re: Whitlock - Hip Hop culture hurting the NFL

I don't think it's hip hop culture that's doing these teams in, I think it's coaches that don't have the discipline to rein in jack*** players. Take Whitlock's example of the Patriots. They can bring in whoever they want, including two notorious troublemakers, Corey Dillon & Randy Moss, and have them work in their system. I don't think "whiteness" has anything to do with these teams winning.

I thought it was a great article. I'd give him positive rep if I could. And he's not the only African American talking about it. I've heard prominent African American businessmen and former African American NFL and NBA players expressing the same sentiments.

Re: Whitlock - Hip Hop culture hurting the NFL

I thought it was a good article. The selfish attitudes certainly don't help a team. Don't know if its necessarily hip-hop related or not. But talented individuals who don't appreciate their positions, but rather take them for granted because of their talent are distractions. With 10 other guys on your side, trying to attract attention to yourself and whining about things doesn't make your team better. The Colts and Pats have players who probably grew up more concerned about contributing everything they can to the team and not to highlight themselves. Is that a black-white cultural thing? Maybe.. Whitlock seems to think so.

I disagree. I thought the NBA article was a great article.

This article, though, just regurgitates his previous points, applying it to the NFL. Maybe he thinks no one was listening last time.

For the record, i think Jason is one of America's best sports columnists.

If you are a Chiefs fan and read Whitlock regularly, almost all agree he is a complete and total tool.

Has he written an article that isn't about race?

I agree with most of what he says, but it's the same thing over and over.
