    Bracket trends: Blowup region

During most tournaments, even if it looks like a lot of high seeds will advance to Final Four as expected, I expect at least one region to blow up.

It doesn't happen every season, but it's far from rare. When I do my brackets, I tend to look for one region where it seems most likely to occur.

Not just a bunch of first-round shockers I'm talking about it happening throughout the the first two weekends most of the top 4 seeds gone by the Elite 8, perhaps multiple double-digit seeds to Sweet 16, 1 seed bounced before Final 4.

Which of this year's regions looks ripe for that?

    I'm leaning toward West.

Even when it does happen, I guess the wrong region about 80% of the time.

Missouri is looking pretty good to make it to Final Four. Will Witchita State make it a long ways?

    Re: Bracket trends: Blowup region

The Syracuse region is totally pathetic IMO. Syracuse has a starter out now, and the #2 seed in this region is Ohio State... who is VERY average IMO.

I really think Vandy can win this region.... that's my upset pick.

I agree that the East Region is the one I expect to explode. My sweet 16 teams out of the east are Kansas state, vanderbilt, florida state, and west virginia.

    Re: Bracket trends: Blowup region

If your definition of bracket-buster is one with a lot of upsets (even if the 1 seed escapes) I see more upset potential in the Midwest region...with teams like Temple, Creighton (sad to say), NC State, Belmont, and possibly even Detroit. Most of these teams will probably clear the road for UNC though, the only other potential #1 seed that will make it to the final four.

Second bet would be the East. Ohio State or Florida State will come out on top of that one.

I'm leaning heavily West because it has a ton of mid-range seeds that I think are the most capable of blowing it up and making the Final 4. Louisville, Florida, New Mexico, and Memphis. In the first round, I suspect our bracket will have the most upsets, though.
