Better Exposure: Beating Ok St or Sweet 16?

I thought about this the other day. Iowa State got a ton of exposure for beating Okie State in football. How do you think the exposure would compare if we were to knock off the defending champs and the #1 team in the nation in one weekend?

I think it would be Kentucky and UConn just because it's in the tournament and Kentucky is by far everyone's favorite to win it all.

This for sure. Basketball teams losing in the tourney is no surprise, but we shocked the world vs. OSU.

I'd say OK State without much hesitation. Kentucky upset would be monumental though.

Okie State, unless ISU finds a way to the Final Four. Beating Uconn and Kentucky, then losing in the final four - will be forgotten by April 30th.

Okie State no question. The Kentucky game would be huge and it would be another major screw you to people who thought a team playing Iowa State would play for the national championship.

Re: Better Exposure: Beating Ok St or Sweet 16?

I would think the Oklahoma State game was better exposure.

However, beating Kentucky (a true college hoops blue blood, whereas Okie State is not a true college football blue blood but rather just had one of their best year's ever) would get amazing coverage as well.

Close call, but I'll go with Okie State.

Re: Better Exposure: Beating Ok St or Sweet 16?

Kentucky. We'd have a permanent highlight every year in the tourney (a positive one this time). Plus our bball team is further along and better able to compete nationally going forward. Okie State was a nice one-time upset win. We could really leverage beating Kentucky - considering their season and its in Louisville, it'd be one of the biggest upsets in a long time.

Re: Better Exposure: Beating Ok St or Sweet 16?

Beating OK state... bball is great, but it is not football. 2 weeks after that game I had an Alabama fan TSA agent stop me in customs to tell me how much he loved ISU. This was the biggest event in ISU sports history, and nothing else is even close.

Re: Better Exposure: Beating Ok St or Sweet 16?

Beating Okie State and going to the Sweet Sixteen after 2 consecutive years of hearing about our future glory in the MAC would make a nice story. Entire athletic program counted out, and everyone just steps it up to new levels.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
