Re: Williams Blog: Huskies no strangers to Royce White

I get the feeling that there is a meshing of feelings for White...one of disrespect from the media as everybody assumes a UConn win and one of excitement to play against these guys he knows from AAU.

    I kinda like that combo.

Yeah, I think Royce is very excited to get the chance to prove himself against this level of competition. Sadly for us, if he does, we may not see him again next year.

Royce White is absolutely no where ready for the NBA level. There have been plenty of NBA scouts at his games this year and they can find many flaws with his game. Unless he absolutely blows up in the tourney, takes us to the final 4, he will be back in Ames next year, mark my word!

I don't think I'll mark your word because you're going off of what you want to happen and not reality. Reality is that White and Hoiberg will discuss his opportunities after the season. Fred might think he's ready. Or he might not. But you really can't say whether he is or isn't.

The really tough part is that the NBA drafts on potential. Royce certainly has that. He may not be on any draft boards just yet, but a big tournament can change that in an instant.

Okay... well I know a scout that works for the timberwolves (belive me or not) and he says that if Royce went this year, he would not be drafted. He can't even make a 15 foot jump shot consistently. Do you really think someone will draft him to play point guard for their team? No.... Does he have great post moves..... No.. He will likely play the 3 position in the NBA, at this point, he is going to improve his shoooting. My God, look at Fizer, who was a much better post player but lacked size as well. There are no places for guys like this in the league, unless you can absolutely shoot it from the perimiter.

playing Baylor is as close as he will get to a simulated NBA game and he did not do well. When Royce presses things bad things happen. Anyone that has gone to an NBA game can tell he is no where near ready for the NBA. He has to work on a consistant mid range jumper or he will end up on The DM Energy roster pretty quick.

You could say that about 90% of the players that leave early. NBA drafts potential not finished product. White has a ton of potential. But he needs to stay another and I think he will.

Exactly, people fall in love with the stars around here too much. I mean yeah, we get some great players around here from time to time, but look how good Fizer, Stinson, even Seneca on the football field. Sometimes they must take the "Cyclone Blinders" off for a bit and realize what they really have.

    Not.

Regardless, why is this getting into a debate on whether Royce will leave or not? How about we talk about what this thread was made about?

But compare him to Jones from Bayor who has more length, better jumping abilility, better outside shooting, etc. Is he read for the NBA.. no.. but will his game translate better to the league, yes.. NBA Scouts I'm sure like a lot of things Royce does, but his offensive game is not even close to being ready for the next level!

Exactly. There are 100 other threads for that debate. We'll see what happens at the end of the year.

So, about White and the team's attitude headed into the game...I think I like it.

I'm not going to come on here and argue with you over this because that's not what this thread is about. You make some decent points. But I've talked with people who have talked to a handful of scouts around the league. A lot of folks out there believe Royce could go anywhere from 15-30. Some agree with what you are saying.

At the end of the day, it's way too early to know anything. Who all is staying? Who all is going? What will Royce do in the tournament. What will that other guy do in the tournament? How strong will the draft be?

A lot of fluff gets tossed around during this time of year. From an Iowa State perspective, it's best to just sit back, enjoy your first dance since 2005 and let the Royce White situation play out as it will.
