Does the rest of the Big 10 get excited when we beat Iowa?

Im just curious as to if other big ten schools use our game as a measuring stick for how Iowa will be on the field against them. I wonder if they laugh if we beat them. Nothing too thought provoking, but it just makes me wonder what other conferences think of us.

I know I laughed my arse off for days after the game.

I don't think they laugh, I think they pay attention and recognize that ISU is for real. If only EIU fans would be so attentive.

I was in MN the week after our game last year with some students, and we had Gopher fans thanking us for embarassing Iowa. I have family at Purdue, and know people in Illinois, and the general concensous is about as much hate for the Hawks as Clone fans do!

I now live in Ohio, and the crazy fans here were happy to see Iowa lose early on in the season. At that point, we helped them look good. After losing to Texas (go Big 12), they needed it. Let's do it again this year.

Just asking, but how did we make OSU look good when we beat Iowa prior to OSU playing Iowa? You would think that would have the opposite effect and make their domination over Iowa looks less impressive since it wasn't the first time they got clobbered.

Personally, I want every team we play to have the best record possible. That way, when we beat them, it means something.

The Illini HATE the Hawkeyes, so any time we (or anyone for that matter) beats Iowa, they smile, laugh, drink, etc.

I lived in Minnesota for several years and whenever anyone found out I was from Iowa they would almost always ask, "You're not a Hawkeye fan are you?" After claiming my allegence to ISU they'd say, "Good." And go on to explain how obnoxious and rude all the Hawkeye fans were when they'd come up to the Gopher basketball and football games. That's when I realized my feelings weren't just due to an in-state rivalry. Fans from other states felt the same way.

Pretty much everyone hates EIU. They're as arrogant as Nebraska fans without the success to back it up.

Take a look at the history of what they think is a "storied" football program. Compare their stats to Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, or any of the other elite programs. Their program is a heck of a lot closer to our level than it is to those above, yet they want to think that they should be mentioned along with the truly elite. Regardless of recent success, they aren't even in the top 20 programs in the country.

I think the Big Ten tend to cheer for each other all you have to do is look at Bowl Season!

Well, of course, because Bowl season is when conferences try to prove themselves. I cheered for all the Big XII North teams when I normally wouldn't do so, because it says something about your conference strength when all the participating schools win their bowl games.

That brings up an interesting question. At the risk of high-jacking the thread, do you root for the other Big 12 teams when they play their non-conference, regular-season games? I usually do. The more we win as a conference, the better all the teams look. If Nebraska beats USC this Saturday, then our victory over Nebraska later this season looks bigger.

Re: Does the rest of the Big 10 get excited when we beat Iowa?

That's a different story. Though I do tend to root for our conference rivals when we're playing out of conference, at least during bowl games, we've already had our runs through the conference and know that an impressive bowl victory doesn't neccessarily translate to a more likely loss the next season.

Re: Does the rest of the Big 10 get excited when we beat Iowa?

Yeah but Iowa has a certain flair for gaining negativity. I cheer on my big 12 brothers outside of conference minus KU. I will never support KU in anything anytime. they are my Iowa for the big 12. I am not a huge nebraska fan due to idiotic fans around here but I will be cheering them on against USC much like i did against michigan last year.
