    Shabby

This may have been mentioned , but I was totally unimpressed with the UT pep band when Royce dribbled the ball back up court they called "Air Ball" 850 times by my count. It went on the whole game. We have had threads about "Air Ball" chants and how stupid those were. Their pep band took it to another low. He was not shooting, he was just dribbling the ball up court. Not impressed, UT Pep band.

We've done that to players before. It is part of the game.

But we have never sustained the air ball chant more than a few times. They did it from the start to the finish. Stupid.

Agreed. I couldn't stand listening to them the entire game.

    Re: Shabby

the scale should go something like:
1 airball-next 3 or 4 possesions when he touches the ball
    2 airballs(non consecutive)-same rules as 1 airball
    2 airballs(consecutive)-don't let up
3 or more airballs-scream shoot every time he touches the ball

It's the only time I've seen an airball chant before someone actually air balls a shot, and they did it the whole game.

The fact that this thread exists is evidence that their chant had its intended effect.

So you think its effect was to tick off the fans and it had nothing to do with getting inside Royce's head?

It was definitely about getting inside Royce's head. But if it was driving everyone watching on TV that crazy, it would be hard to believe that it didn't have any effect on him. Especially considering the way he played early in the game.

Edit: And before you imply it, no, I don't believe that the chant was the reason he started the game the way he did. Just saying that he surely noticed it and it obviously wasn't helping.

    Re: Shabby

I was at the Women's home opener. Freshman on the other team air balled a 3. Every single time she touched the ball, even if it was just being passed through her, pep band chanted air ball. I believe she only took a couple other shots the rest of the night. Pep bands are suppose to do that.

But give Royce credit, didn't he go 3-3 at the line? Let them chant it all they want if it fuels Royce.
