Last night can be a positive

I am starting to calm down from the loss, and realize that it's next week's tourney that really counts. Would have loved to get the B12 tourney monkey off our back, but that's for next year now.

With that said, Fred has done a pretty good job of getting the players re-focussed after prior losses. We seem to respond pretty well. We have only lost two games in a row, once this season, and that was Mizzou and @KU. Two #1/2 seeds at that.

I think Fred will turn last night's lapse into a positive and we'll come out looking pretty good Thur/Fri. Hopefully we don't have to play a #1/2 seed in the 2nd round however.

That is probably the worst part about last night.

There's always that question as to whether you want your team to expend a lot of energy and reach the conference tournament final, or whether you'd rather have them rest a bit more. Of course, UConn went the distance last year with a 5 game conference tournament, but it doesn't seem like there is a correlation between losing early in your tournament and how you do in the NCAA's.

I think Fred will use our sloppiness and our lack of focus on defense as a rallying point for next week. I look for this team to be sharp in the NCAA.

I'm not suggesting there's a correlation or trying to compare us to other teams, but we haven't wen on any two game skids, except the KU/Mizzou losses, which are pretty understandable and if we would have played the Mizzou game at home later in the season, I'm confident that we would have won that one too.

My point, is that Fred can and will turn this into something that will help us come out next week with a sharp, crisp effort.

Oh, I agree. This next one counts in every way, and I expect a huge effort out of these guys, and Freddie will have them well prepared. Calling our team a very difficult match up for anyone is the absolute truth.

There is about 90-95% chance we will be playing a 1 or 2 if we are lucky enough to win the first round

I agree and if offered an 8 or 9 NCAA tournament seed before conference started I would have certainly taken it in a heartbeat

Makes me wonder... What's the best an NCAA team that lost in the first round of their conference tournament ever done at the Big Dance?

Re: Last night can be a positive

I agree that last night can be a positive. A lot of people "gave up" after we survived MVSU - we went on to finish 12-6, tied for 3rd in conference. A lot of the same people gave up after we lost to OSU - the team won three of it's final four games, including wins at K-State, Baylor, and nearly survived Mizzou. So this team is still capable of rebounding and making quite a run next week.

    Face the music boys...

We were an 8 seed going into the game last nite that we should have won by 10 points or more and Losing 2 Thee Texass Shorthorns is NOT gonna make us a 7 seed now is it...

I would say rite now there is a 100% chance of playing a ONE seed if we somehow win the 1st round game....

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if we didn't. That's what really stings about the loss to Texas, the team put themselves in a tough position.

That being said, I'm not complaining, it's great to be talking about the dance!!

Then the plan should be to knock off whichever 1 seed we end up having to play...

Teams have made the final four but I don't think anyone has ever won the championship after losing their first conference tournament game.

Re: Last night can be a positive

I am not taking much positive about the game last night. Texas is not that good. to think things will turn around in a week is a stretch. If we could not come out with more urgency, what will it be like if we play a Florida State or a creighton? I am not optimistic that we can do well, but the part that bugs me is the support cast did not help Royce out more offensively and that we did not pass the ball around that miuch for the cleaner look. We have almost regressed some on offense.
