    Selling things on Craigslist

Didn't know if anyone on here has ever sold anything on Craigslist. Was looking to sell a few extra pc items I have after a recent upgrade and didn't know if i could trust buyers on that site as I have heard alot of horror stories.

Can anyone offer advice on how to safeguard myself or another avenue for parting with some pc items?

    Re: Selling things on Craigslist

I have sold a bunch of stuff on craigslist. The main signs for scam are when the interested party talks about whatever you are selling as an "item" of "unit". If they do this this is more than likely a scam. Also, make sure you meet the buyer in person. A big scam is when they want to buy your "item" and they want to send a check for more than amount of the purchase and want you to send cash back. The check bounces and you are out the money in your account.

If you are questioning a potential buyer I usually ask them to give you their number. If they won't give you their number then it is a scam. What I usually say is can I get a number to reach you at so we can discuss ..... in greater detail.

    Re: Selling things on Craigslist

Sold tons of things on craigslist and bought a lot of stuff as well. Never have really had any issues with buyers but I know they can happen. When you get the email from a potential scammer, it is pretty obvious in their wording as was said above. It is a heck of a market place that's for sure.

    Re: Selling things on Craigslist

We've sold a bunch of stuff on Craigslist, and never had a problem. I always have them call me, and meet with me, rather than with my wife. If I meet them at my home, I put the sale item in the garage and any discussion takes place there.

May I ask, what sort of PC items? I certainly wouldn't sell anything that contained any memory.

meet in person and get cash.

I did sell a car on craigslist a couple years ago. I accepted a cashier's check for that transaction. Everything went smoothly.

This. Step in to my office. I use this technique as well. I also always tell people that there is another offer on the table right now.

If you accept a cashier's check. Require ID from the person and call to verify the check is legit before the person leaves. I had a friend get burned bad on a really, really good fake.

I would just stay away from them and require cash on all transactions.

    Do this /\

And be prepared to negotiate, every once in awhile someone will wait until they meet you in person to try to negotiate a lower price.

    Re: Selling things on Craigslist

I have listed a few things for sale but never completed a transaction. There seem to be a lot of jokers that want to buy stuff for 1/4 of what it is worth.

For me ebay has been a much better venue for selling stuff. I have bought stuff via craigslist.
