    Big 12 Standings

So we have the 3 seed for the tournament, but every site I have been on this morning has us listed as #4 in conference standings. Baylor has the better OVERALL record. Is this why they are still above us in the standings, or is this a mistake?

The only site's standings that matter:

    - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site

You are looking at the wrong sites.

    Re: Big 12 Standings

We tied for 3rd with Baylor, won the tiebreaker for tourney seeding. Technically, there is not a 4th place team in the Big 12 this season. Most sites list by alphabetical order, so that is probably why.

It's a mistake. OOC record does not affect our B12 standing. We own the tie breaker due to beating KU.

That must be it. Espn, cbs sports, and SI all have baylor in the 3 spot. I will check the big 12 first from now on. They DO list them in proper standing order.

    Thanks for clerifying all.

    Re: Big 12 Standings

I'm guessing Baylor is above us in those because of win percentage overall, not alphabetical order.

Edit: Supported by the America East standings. New Hampshire and Hartford have the same record, but NH is listed first because of a better overall record.

Actually, New is just modifying Hampshire, so it is proper to alphabetize Hampshire ahead of Hartford. Kind of like how you ignore "The" at the beginning of a word when alphabetizing. Hampshire before Hartford.

For further future reference -- Big 12 Sports does not list them by tiebreaker mid-season. I believe it is still alphabetical until the regular season is ended (and really, tiebreakers don't fully work until the season is over anyway).

May my posts be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

THIS is the correct answer. Anytime you see teams with conference records tied, ESPN will list those with higher overall record higher. This is typically true for other sports such as football.

    Re: Big 12 Standings

It seems kind of bush league for us to be listed 4th when we are really 3rd... even if we're tied for 3rd (we own the tiebreaker too).

    Re: Big 12 Standings

I believe standings and conference tournament seeding are two different things. They are ahead of us in the standings because we have the same conference record but they have a better overall record.
The tiebreaker system is only used specifically for seeding the conference tournament, not for standings.
The overall record is only used for standings, not for seeding of the conference tournament.
