    3/5 Bracketology

Bracketology - Women's College Basketball Brackets and Predictions - ESPN

Creme has us as the #10 seed in the Des Moines Regional. We would face Rutgers in the first round with a potential second round matchup against Tennessee.

Yuk. It would not be a good 1st round match-up for us to have to play another physical defensive team immediately.

I certainly wouldn't mind having Tennessee in Ames, but I agree about Rutgers. They held UConn to only 49 points yesterday on under 33% shooting. On the flip side, they only scored 34 and shot under 25%.

If that held true that would be an intruiging field in Ames for the first couple rounds.

    Re: 3/5 Bracketology

The bracketology also demonstrates why a 10 or 11 seed is so much better than an 8 or 9. Iowa got a 9 seed (bumped down procedurally from an 8). That's a better seed than we have, but their reward is playing 8-seed OU in Norman. Survive that and they get Stanford.

Granted, since we are hosting we could never get a situation quite that bad, at least in the first round. We could certainly still get Stanford.

    Re: 3/5 Bracketology

It will definitely be interesting to see the brackets this year and if the Big 12 gets any love.

A while back they were projecting 8 teams from the Big 12 and now it is down to 6.

Who would have thought that 9-9 meant 4th place in the Big 12.

If TN comes to Ames, I will be there.

Rutgers and TN would definitely be hard match-ups. Though as MRed pointed out, Rutgers has offensive struggles at times, and TN while having talent out the wazzoo, hasn't been really able to put it together much this year with poor point guard play. If we do indeed get them in our bracket, I think the match-up is favorable for ISU.

You might finally have your dream come true of ISU playing Pat Summit! Probably in her last tourney games ever.

Somewhat in shock still that 9 losses and we still finished 4th in the Big 12. Wow. Also shocked to see Texas beat A&M and KU beat OU on the last day of the season, so 2nd place in the Big 12 had 7 losses! Amazing.

    Re: 3/5 Bracketology

Women's bracket is still very fluid. A lot could happen today if Gonzaga loses and Marist loses since this would force Bridgeport to have Fairfield play there and BYU getting in. If BYU gets in USC, Dayton or UNC could be out unless Dayton loses the A10 final.

Also if Bowling Green doesn't win the MAC that will open up as a site and Chapel Hill could open with a couple upsets and if the committee finally punishes UNC for their weak OOC and leaves them out.

I really don't want our Twister Sisters to have to face Rutgers again. I always go away with a bad taste in my mouth after those games. Win or lose, I do not like the foul because they can't call them all brand of basketball that Stringer brings to the table.

That and the power of motivation. A win or loss depended more heavily than usual on what motivated a team on a particular night. Texas is a prime example. UT has talent but it takes motivation to use it successfully.

    ...
Gonzaga lost to BYU. St. Bonnie lost to Dayton. Both were ranked in a poll. Creme tweeted that ISU is now one of the last four in, along with Texas.

Charlie Creme: Last 4 in: Iowa St, Mich St, Texas, UNC First 4 out: USC, Michigan, JMU, Okla St

Creme is still showing his bias against the Big 12. The WCC and A10 should get 1 bid only. Doesn't matter if the regular season champ didn't win the conference tourney. If you look at their records, the reason they have so many wins is because of their schedules, and their schedules are nothing like the Big 12. Hopefully the selection committee acknowledges that. It would be unreal if lots of wins in a less competitive conference means more bids at the expense of the Big 12.

    Re: 3/5 Bracketology

Creme now has us in the "last four in" category per his twitter account, albeit in the top (bets) position of the four. No fault of our own; BYU (previously "next four out") upset Gonzaga to win an auto-bid and Dayton (previously the 4th "last four in" team) upset St. Bonaventure to secure an auto-bid. That moved those two teams off the bubble, and the resulting shift moved USC to "first four out", shifted Texas and UNC down two slots in "last four in", and added ISU and Michigan State to that list.

EDIT: cydney beat me to it.

I disagree. We've played 15 games against the RPI top 50. St. Bonaventure and Gonzaga have played 10 and 9. That's certainly not as many, but they've earned their somewhat high RPIs. And since bids go to teams, not conferences (except the auto-bid, of course) they need to be judged on their schedule and results just like everyone else. The Sagarin ratings (which love us and have us #29) love them as well: St. B is #23 and Gonzaga is #32. I don't see a single measure that would convince me that either should be anything but a shoo-in for the tournament.
