This team really needs Buckley and Bingley to get on campus. Watching the second half of the Baylor game was painful. We were racing the clock every possession just to get it past half court. We could not beat anyone off the dribble, and threw up the most contested 3 we could find when we finally got to a half court set. Someone who could beat their opponent off the dribble for a mid-range shot or a kick to set up a 3 would be nice.

Bingley and Blaskowski (sp?) come next fall, but Buckley is only a jr. And speed alone will not always break presses; takes sharp and timely passes up the court.

I didn't see the game but I find this highly questionable. Are you saying that they were racing the shot clock's expiration or are you talking about some phantom 10 second call that doesn't exist in Women's college ball?

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

I can't say what he means, but expending so much time/energy getting it across court often left us with little time to do much on offense. In the first half, we were intentionally taking it across slowly, but Baylor's perimeter defense in the halfcourt wasn't as aggressive in the first half as it was in the second so time wasn't as much of an issue.

once Baylor decided to press for real...it was over.

Bill has a lot of work to do recruiting wise.

And had the second best record in the league over the last 10 games. Not bad for a team with no talent according to some on this board.

I was at the state tournament last week, and the rumor was floating that the Disterhoft girl from ICW has verballed to ISU.

You didn't watch the game did you chief? The fact we finished 4th tells me that there is a giant gulf between first and fourth. We didn't look like we should be in the same arena with Baylor's team. That is the status quo for ISU Women's BB. They can play and beat almost every team, but the elites absolutely destroy us, and it is because we don't have the athletes to break pressure. You should try watching a game.

And I didn't know about the 10 second rule, because there were times where I was sure we spent about 15 seconds trying to figure out how to get the ball past half court.

I'm guessing you don't watch much college women's basketball? There is no 10 second rule. And Baylor is undefeated this season, so there's a pretty big gulf between them and any team this year.

ISU led 40-36 early in the second half, and not many teams have held a lead against Baylor this year at any time during a game.

It's true that the press was a big problem for ISU, but judging a team and its season by 15 minutes of a game against the #1 team in the country is ridiculous.

You could read the second part of my post, but that might hurt your brain is my guess? The fact that there is no 10 second rule does not make the display of getting the ball past half court any less embarassing.

We have a good women's program, but we are one trick ponies. If that is the only way we can win so be it, but we are never going to have a shot at a title with teams like we have had. The game reminded me of the UConn game in 2010. I was excited the team made the Sweet 16, but that way UConn abused us made me wish the team had lost a close one in the second round.

This team has not been a bastion of greatness outside of this Baylor matchup either this year. Hoping that some of our most highly touted guards to commit to ISU will get here should not be villified. We could very obviously have used the help on Saturday.

    Really?

Nov 20th Baylor beat the No. 3 team in the country Notre Dame by 13.

Jan 7th Baylor beat Iowa State by 12.

There may be a "Giant Gulf" between Iowa State and Baylor. But there is "Giant Gulf" between Baylor and EVERYBODY.

I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to be the best, but to expect us to beat Baylor this year is an indication clinical help may be in order.

Congratulations on basing your season analysis of this team off one game.

You do realize that Baylor won the league by 7 games? The seond place teams were 11-7. Baylor beat OU 89-58 & 81-54, and TAMU 71-48 and 69-62 in a hackfest. Both those teams are loaded with 4 and 5 star recruits and they couldn't even compete with Baylor. Every other coach knew the race was for 2nd place in the league this year because Baylor is on another level.

As for watching games, let's see been a season ticket holder since 1997, been to every game this year + Drake, and NCAA tourney games, last year all games + 3 in the Virgin Islands. So I've probably seen one or two more than you, and I've seen them in person, not on TV. It's pretty obvious you don't watch women's basketball since you had to backtrack on the 10 second rule.

The elites will be/have been destroyed by Baylor this year. They've already beat UCONN, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. The only team that will be Baylor this year is themselves.
