Why the Playstation is the best invention ever...

So after witnessing the brutal beatdown last Saturday, I was feeling pretty lousy. But instead of punching a hole in a wall or drinking myself into a stupor, I decided to take action.

    Virtual action.

Some would say that the main benefits of videogames are improved hand-eye coordination or relief from boredom. I submit that the greatest benefit is their use for the purposes of revenge.

My EA Sports NCAA Football Cyclones just happened to be playing the Texas Longhorns for the Big 12 championship that week. After flipping the system on, I proceeded to demolish the virtual Texas, and salvage some pride for my beloved Cyclones.

Regardless of what happened earlier in the day, in my world, ISU managed to hold Texas to 10 points and remain undefeated. Jason Scales ran for 150+ yards! Meyer had 3 touchdown passes, including two 40+ yarders to Blythe! Oh, looks like you're not shredding the ISU defense for 75% completion rate anymore, Colt McCoy! In fact, Rubin managed to sack your skinny *** twice! Take that, Texas!

Is this behavior childish? Yes. Petty? Indubitably. But god, it felt so good to curbstomp the Longhorns, even if it was only in a game. In fact, it felt so good that I set the game to the easiest level and completely smoked the Longhorns again.

One downside. The pitiful eyeroll my girlfriend gave me when I explained what I was doing.

i do it too... so ur not the only one...

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Why the Playstation is the best invention ever...

I wish I could play NCAA 08 more often, but I stopped because of the damn turnovers the game insists on producing. I once played a game versus Nebraska with 18 total turnovers... 9 from each team! Meyer finished with 3 INTs, and the team fumbled it 6 times. Keller finished with 5 INTs (all of them computer-controlled), and 4 team fumbles.

It feels like no matter who I put in at running back, they fumble the ball while running, or the game counts the loose ball as a fumble even when the running back has already been down for a second or two.

I don't know if the 360/PS3 version is any better, but I'm through with the PS2.

Yeah, the fumbles are pretty ridiculous. It always seems to happen at the most inopportune times too (trying to lead my team back in the fourth quarter, red zone, etc). I usually just try to run out of bounds before contact so I can avoid the issue.

Good to know I'm not the only one who engages in this behavior.

My brother, cousin and myself went home and played Bond for an hour or so - viciously murdering one another.

We even went with explosives only a few times, strapping satchel charges to one another's backs.

    Ahhh, the bloody good fun...

I always tell my wife that I'm going to kill some Germans. I then pop in Medal of Honor, Call of Duty or Brother in Arms. It makes me feel a little better.

Before anyone nails me, I'm 1/2 German.

I'm 1/2 German too.....and I loves to kill me some Germans! Besides, if we were 1/2 French, we would just drop our weapons and the game would be over. Not much fun in that!

So if you were 1/2 German and 1/2 French you would kill yourself while surrendering?

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Re: Why the Playstation is the best invention ever...

NCAA 07 has the same problems with turnovers on my XBox. I'm getting to the point where it's not even fun playing it sometimes because every f'in pass I throw turns into a superman linebacker interception returned 79 yards for a TD.

Fumbles and interceptions are horribly programmed into the game. They needed to make sure that super-high turnover games don't happen every other game, because in real life they usually don't either. A couple of turnovers a game is pretty average... but 9 turnovers? 7 turnovers? 10 turnovers? Are you kidding me?

I kind of precluded to this earlier, but I also hate the "superman" computer player plays that they sometimes make. And by sometimes I mean 2-3 times per game. Like the super-acceleration sprint for an overthrown ball that results in a completion that ends up burning my safety for a TD. The last time I checked, football players couldn't defy physics.
