Saints being investigated for Bounties being placed on players.....

I hope the hammer comes down on the Saints for this. With all of the new rules for player safety this can't be taken lightly

Nothing like purposefully injuring a fellow union member huh?

Apparently, they're not being investigated. The investigation is over and the NFL ruled them guilty according to this article:

I wonder how they will handle Gregg Williams now that he is with the Rams? Fischer might be looking for a new DC

    Guesses on the punishment?

I predict a first round pick will be forfeited, Payton fined $750,000, and Williams fined $100,000.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

Likely those. Kinda surprised that the qbs were two old ones(Favre and Warner) and not any of the young guns like Rodgers or Stafford.

That's how the circumstances were...Would've been Rodgers but he fumbled away those chances the week before...I think the bounty thing is interesting, because it seems to take football back to the days where opponents actually had a hatred for the opponent and didn't look like a complete love-fest at the end of the game...

Warner and Favre were playoff opponents, weren't they?

Warner and Favre were during playoff games, so that is the main reason they were targeted. As a Vikings fan, this whole thing just reopens the wound of that loss.

I remember the Viking/Saints playoff game....there was some definite cheap shots on Favre during that game.

I'd have no problem with suspending a coach who knew about this and condones it. Let them sit without pay if this is the kind of thing they want.

I don't mind the idea of a little animosity between the players, but I don't think that "bounties" are how it should be done. You should win the game by playing better, not by eliminating your opponent's skilled players. It was extremely evident in the Vikings vs Saints NFC Championship. I'm no big fan of Favre, but that's not how you play the game.

In my opinion, any coaching staff or player who intentionally does or coaches this should dealt with severely. Third strike and you are barred from the league. This is not about trying to "soften up" the game. It's one thing if you are making a play and get a bit aggressive when you hit someone. It's another if you intentionally aim to injure a player by hitting them excessively and intentionally after the play is over.

From those games which I watched, they didn't seem overly aggressive or have any vicious hits that warranted penalties...They just made Favre and Warner look a little long in the tooth in those games....If it takes a little extra money to get NFL players to actually hit people and show aggression, so be it...This coming from a fan's perspective...

What part of football isn't aggressive enough for you. Have you been watching the past few years??

I'm not really aware of any other games, but the NFC Championship I mentioned was particularly bad. There were several roughing the passer penalties on the Saints and later on after the game it came out that the players were coached to intentionally hit Farve late and push the envelope regardless of getting penalties.

In my opinion, that is not how the game should be played in any sport. A player should never be coached to take an action which is against the rules.
