    Absolutely.

I guess it depends what you mean by "better shape". But ISU is at the bottom of that list with history and $$$$

I would have to say A&M. They seem like they are the only team that hasn't slipped very much in the transistion of a new coach

aTm will always have Texas to recruit and they are having a decent season. ND will always have the name and the money and the history, as well as Chicago to recruit.

I'll say Iowa State. I believe that the new coaching staff will turn things around. The other schools all need to get rid of their coaches, find new ones, and hope that they work out better than their last hire.

Re: Who is in better shape right now.

    This is a toughie...and a good question.

Notre Dame has a coach that looks way overpaid right now, a guy they hired after firing a guy that did a decent job for them. A team that won't finish .500 this year against an average schedule. A team with an offensive guru at the helm, but hasn't scored more than 20 points yet this year.

Iowa State, new coach/system and looking completely horrible. Can't score, now having trouble stopping people, special teams a mess and to top it off - the players look completely uninspired. All this in front of record numbers of season ticket holders with significantly increased ticket prices. To top it off, the touted best talent on the team is graduating this year.

Nebraska has been completely embarrassed three times this year, twice in front of the home fans. Team looks uninspired, blackshirts look like the green-light-special and the offense playing uninspired. Their AD was ruffling the feathers of fans - now fired. The coaching staff looks to be the next on the chopping block, a group that won't be cheap to buy out. The last time the Huskers conducted a coaching search, prospective coaches treated them like the acne-infested kid with braces, 1-inch thick glasses and horrible body oder that went around school asking various girls to the prom.

Texas A&M is the winner by default merely because they have a winning record right now. Their coach does seem to be on the way out, but at least they have some talent there and a chance to still have a decent season.

Re: Who is in better shape right now.

ND by far - they have a coach that's only in year 3 with his team and all of his recruits (at least his star recruits) are only sophomores. He's still playing with Willingham's last couple classes, which none of which were ranked above 30! He's shown he can coach, and his class is already top 5 for next year as well, which will give him 2 top 5 classes and a top 10 to start off! Plus they have the facilities, the money, etc. They are going to get back on top. And I don't see how you say they have an easy schedule. Michigan is way better than their two loss start to the season, Purdue has a Tech like offense, UCLA and USC, Georgia Tech. We wouldn't want to play those schools right now. And we can't use the "our schedule is filled with 7 bowl participants" thing if other schools can't use it, and on paper ND had as tough a schedule as we did!
Nebraska and A&M are in trouble. Nebraska looks like it's ready to fall apart at the seams. First the AD and then BC will be on a short string the new AD - and both just got huge extensions. The talent level isn't at Nebraska anymore. A&M is better right now, although Coach Fran is out after this year. No question about it. But they have talent. That's really never been their problem. They just have had terrible coaches the last several years. And remember, Fran has been there quite a while. Both programs have the history, tradition and money to get back up but Nebraska is going to crash like a bad stock!
ISU is good - we're dumping lots of money into facilities, fans, etc. We have a new coach with lots of enthusiasm. But we haven't seen what a full year of recruiting can provide, and we haven't seen some of the best game day coaching yet either (whether it's because of the lack of talent or what, it's not like the coaches have been beating the other sideline either). It's an exciting time at ISU after 2 heartbreaking seasons and a really disappointing season, we're ready to get back to continuous bowls and meaningful October and November games! So it's a different type of position we're in right now than those other schools.

I'll take A&M. Easy pick. They are 5-2 right now a sitting in a first place tie in the Big 12 South.

We'll see how they stack up against the Big Boys though as that has been their downfall lately.

Re: Who is in better shape right now.

Iowa State is in the worst shape of the schools listed. Iowa State is the only school listed where there are persistent rumors that they may be forced out of their conference. Although Notre Dame is an Independent they would be welcomed by most conferences.

Well seeing how only one of them has their own tv contract and the ability to hire anybody they want and recruit anywhere in the country I would say this one is easy.
