    MBB "Senior Tour" of Iowa

Anyone here remember the "Senior Tours" that the MBB program did in '95 and '97, where most of the seniors traveled around the state and played games against some local muckity-mucks? I remember it being one of the coolest things ever (a bunch of kids from my school even got called out onto the court during the game and played against the ISU team, and I still have the t-shirts that I got autographed by all the played afterwards (Cato was the only one who didn't go, because he was prepping for the NBA draft).

Anyways, CFH was a player on the '95 tour; has anyone heard whether the program would ever consider doing this again?

I don't know if it was the same thing or not but I was in the Nick Nurse basketball camp around 95 and Julius, Fred, and Loren all came for a day. Fred was and is a great guy, but Julius was awesome to hang out with and get pointers from. He was cracking all sorts of jokes.

I remember the tours. They came up to Belmond one year to raise money for something local, which was part of the reason behind the tours.

Paul Shirley, Stevie Johnson, Kantrail Horton, others I can't remember, and Sarah Robson (she wasn't on the T-shirt, but participated that night as she graduated from Belmond-Klemme).

My highschool had the Iowa Hawkeye seniors come two years in a row and play against our highschool team (being from southeast iowa). Was pretty cool since i was pretty young even though it was the hawks.

Yep, 1995 Hoiberg, Meyer, Michalik, Sean Jackson, Beechum, and James Hamilton came to good ole New Hampton. I got my Hilton Hankie signed, which is now hanging in the man cave. One of my most treasured of Cyclone memorabilia.

Was that 2001? I didn't realize they did one then, too.

Re: MBB "Senior Tour" of Iowa

I was working in Cedar Rapids and was doing some business in April '87 with Gerry "Sir Jamelot" Wright of Iowa, who just got done with their 30-5 final 8 season. A few days later, he joined his Hawkeye teammates on a barnstorming tour. On their way to Waterloo for game, they stopped off in CR to see me and a couple of my co-workers. Lohaus, Bill Jones, Horton, Marble, Armstrong, Gamble, etc. At the time, I had no idea all of those guys would be in the NBA within 1-2 years.

pretty cool at the time, but I have remained a die-hard Cyclone and would never convert

I still have my signed t-shirt from Freddy's year!
When Willoughby and company came, I got to hang out with them afterwards at the host house. That was fun!
I'm hoping some basketball players come on the Tailgate Tour with Freddy this year!

I remember around the same time for a couple straight years A few members of the Hawks & Clones would team with locals & play a game in Carroll. I believe they were held in the Kuemper Gym. I remember Sir Jamelot doing a dunk exhibition during the whole deal. I was neighbors with a big hawk backer that had something to do with it. He died of a heart attack and I don't remember there being another one after that.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

I have a picture with Fred Hoiberg from these tours in Urbandale. I had just turned 7 I believe. Little did I know that this picture would be one of the greatest pictures I could ever be in (and not because of me)
