Iowa State Shoots Too Many Threes

That seems to be the thought process from some, so I wanted to hash this out furter. In the end, the simple answer is, "no, they don't".

We don't shoot too many. We miss too many.

Who should I email about asking the team not to miss so many?

No need to email me... Feedback noted and I will be discussing this with the team.

Amen. As a team we shoot over 38% from three and make 9 per game. It's only possible for Royce and maybe Ejim to shoot too many threes. I trust everyone else (other than guys that don't shoot them at all, like Railey) to keep shooting.

Thanks, Coach. I have the same feedback for all missed shots. I'm kind of a basketball genius that way. No need to thank me.

The scary thing is that Royce is 4-10 from 3 this year. I am assuming he cant keep up that clip, in fact 40% is fine he should just quit shooting them now, because as he rises up to shoot so does my blood pressure, and honestly it doesnt even come down when he swishes them, its weird.

We have been that all year. Can't really argue against that now.

Re: Iowa State Shoots Too Many Threes

Some games it may seem like too many.....but I don't recall many people complaining about it when ISU wins and shoots a bunch of 3's. In the first Oklahoma game......ISU shot 1 less three pointer then they did last night, but they made 3 more than they did last night. Had they made 15 last night....guess what....they would have won. If you are a fan of ISU......you might as well get used to this. With FH as coach, the type of player and shooter he was in the NBA, and the fact that in his first two years as coach both his teams will have set new 3 point records for ISU would seem to indicate that is the type of team ISU will have. All 6 players being added for next year can shoot the 3.

There are a lot of teams that would kill to have ISU's outside shooters.

IMO, the game last night was lost because ISU failed to control the tempo in the second half, there were too many in-play turnovers that led to points for MU, and I think Royce may have been a little gassed the last 7 or 8 minutes and ISU did not go to him much. All correctable problems.

Frankly, I love the 3 point shot. To me, it can help to make games more interesting for a longer period of time. Now, a 10 point lead is not much at all in college.

BF's ISU team have always had the reputation of being excellent 3 point shooting teams. For whatever reason, this year's team is a bit off the norm, but I pretty sure he will get it back. I have no problem at all if both the MBB and WBB teams have that reputation.......provided of course they make a good percentage of them and they can win.

If we had a true center and/or a couple of guards that could beat people off the dribble I'd agree with the OP. The way this team is put togehter the 3 ball is a pretty effective tool.

I think some may have missed my point and/or not read what I linked to, but here's a hint (the chart that explains my thoughts).

The 3-efg% is the efg% for the three point shots alone and that is then compared to the 2FG% for the given game. Green rows meen it was better, orange mean it was close, and red is where the 2FG% was better.

When he shot in rhythm last night, i.e., catch-&-shoot, he hit them. When he dribbled first, he missed. (Yes, I know 3 is a very small sample.) My recollection is that the other 3's he hit were also of the catch-&-shoot variety. I just may be that he has too much time to think at the FT line. Considering the other fine-motor skills he has displayed, it is surprising he is not a better shooter. Perhaps his anxiety disorder contributes to the FT shooting. Hopefully, he will overcome. If anyone can, I think he can as he appears determined to do so.
