Angry Things i think i think on Meyer and Blythe....

Watching the game saturday, had to stay home for kids birthday party, but, watched the game on TV - it was nice to finally be able to tell people yeah were on tv this week!!!!

Anyhow, just an observation of our two seniors.....And by the way, i've been the biggest supporter of Meyer there is, but, i'm seeing things that are beginning to tell me that he may not be the guy.

Meyer: Wow, in watching that game, i've never seen so many plays made by the safties....guys were open and by the time the ball got there, the safety was there. Additionally, when our guy was open the ball was still in meyers hands - tentative. You got to be able to just let it go and trust you've made the right read. This all stems from his horrible decisions and the 10-15 ints that were bad plays, now he's holding the ball until he sees his receiver break free and then fires it. Well, if you watch his head, it locks on a target and thats where the ball goes, watching colt mccoy his head was bouncing all over the field, going through his progressions. The locking on a target simply allows the safety to play center field and whoever he locks his head on, the safety runs and either crushes our receivers or makes a play on the ball....
His body composure kind of tells the tape, that he's beginning to crumble a bit. I would not be surprised to see Arnaud in there for the missouri game on. As much as i love Meyer, its time to try something different. Maybe even this week against OU.....

Blythe: Is it just me or does he miss more blocks then Randy Moss - pre Patriots....
Watching that game was brutal!!!! Anytime the run came to his side of the field the guy he was engaged with made the tackle. I hope he realizes the next level will definately scrutinize his blocking and his game film he's putting together each saturday is moving him further and further down the draft which ultimately is costing him money. I cannot begin to tell you how watching him in that game, it appeared he didn't work hard, never helps his quarterback out, and just seems to be going through the motions. He's been one of my favorite players and i have him on my computer as my wallpaper, but, he's gotta start putting in the effort.

I hope they can turn this type of performance around, two of my favorite players of all time, and this is their time, their seniors and should be setting an example for everyone else to follow, i'm not seeing senior leadership at all....

Blythe dogged it on a lot of routes when he wasn't the primary receiver. A lot of routes. Depressing seeing guys who are supposed to be leaders on the team doing that.

#82, not #1, is our best all-around receiver on this team.

Get mad at that if you want Cyclone fans, but it's true.

I hear Blythe and a couple other guys are trying to be leaders on the sidelines, pepping folks up and such late in that game. That's nice and all, but no one will buy into it if you're not leading on the field, doing anything and everything you possibly can to help your team.

I will be the happiest person in the state of Iowa ...I will also include the states of Minnesota Mizzouri and Kansas ....When Meyer and Blythe are either benched or have run out of eligibility.

Both meyer and blythe were better as freshmen than seniors...I cannot believe that GC continues to play these guys when we're obviously in a rebuilding mode.

BENCH'EM GENE AND BRING ON THE FRESHMEN....They cant do any worse than lose all the rest of the games!!!

It seems like it was yesterday:

The year was 2004, and their was seemingly no limit to how good these guys were going to be.

Meyer/Blythe are a lesser version (meaning their drop-off is worse) of Stinson and Blalock.

Someday, somehow we'll get some freshman phenoms in here that get better, not plateau or get worse.

    (you hear that Wesley Johnson???)

Re: Things i think i think on Meyer and Blythe....

It took you this long to realize this about Meyer? He's been doing the same crap the past couple seasons now! I've taken heat over and over here by pointing these things out and calling him out on it and I guess it takes a 56-3 drubbing for some people to finally see this too? The ironic thing is he now holds how many records now and he isn't even in the top 3 or 4 QBs all time best at ISU in my opinion. I think he gets to start the Oklahoma game but after that I could easily see a change coming.

This season is a wash no matter how you look at it and I'd rather start looking at Arnaud and Bates now in game situations then having to wait until next year to see what they can do.

Re: Things i think i think on Meyer and Blythe....

So who has the leadership on this team? Blythe could play with more heart. Bret could play more open and less tentative. Ace can do only so much. Who can lead the team out of the morass?

Frankly, the special teams still look more like the ball and chain around this team - enough to drag them down to oblivion. Who can run a punt back? A kickoff? Make a return tackle? Kick a ball deep? Make consistent punts.

I will thank God and hope not to jinx them by saying the snaps went well, penalties remain piddly and small, time of possession remains pretty. Yet I saw a lot of third and longs just like last year.

Tired of seeing our runners run sideways and tackled for no gain. What happened to the Troy Davis dive for an extra two yards. Some of our offensive moves look like we are Scenario-Challenged.

Sorry, sorry, but we need to hustle more like we were doing in the Iowa game. WEe have to make our own luck. I only see Ace as the Man so far. Blythe is going through the motions at this point. And will someone tell Chris Singleton on that opening pass play that he is the pass defender and not run stopper. He allowed the Texas sprinter to go 10 yards deep behind him because he thought he might have to go down and tackly Colt McCoy twenty five yards in front of him. Bonehead play to start the defense and probably started our inevitable slide to ineptness.

I do think Scales did a nice job this week. He seems to hit the hole a lot harder than Bass and several times willed his way for a couple more yards while being brought down.

I still can see him catching the ball with a defender on all over him, and he literally outwilled the guy for those two yards to move the sticks.....Thats called getting it done, and should be rewarded....

I'm sick of us only throwing the fade to #1 when we're in the red zone.....

what about a quick slant to the guy that just worked his *** off to get the first down.....reward the players that are giving the effort, who knows it might rub off on ol #1 and he might actually make a block that lets our rb run for more then 6 yards.

    Hamilton for president.....

    Hamilton is indeed very physical.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Last year, the fans could not figure out why we didn't throw the fade to Blythe more when we were in the red zone. Plays similar to that are the only reason we beat Toledo last year. We run that play because the only thing that can stop it is a bad pass or Todd dropping it like he did Saturday. If ISU never ran the fade to Blythe, his name wouldn't be half as high in the record books as it is.
