    Lunardi - Bracketology - Apocalypse

Sorry if this has been posted, didn't see it anywhere. And yes, I know inventing brackets at this point is raking leaves in a hurricane, BUT-

Lunardi has Mich St as #1 seed, and the 8/9 paired with them... ISU vs Southern Miss.

He must have done that just to see if anyone was paying attention. My head almost exploded.

Well we don't have to worry about Michigan State as a 1 seed anymore as they just lost last night.

Yea, in Lunardi's update this morning he bumped MSU from a 1 seed in favor of Duke.

what's crazy is he still has UConn in, not even in his "last 4 in" category, despite the fact that they've lost 9 of their last 12 games, 11 of their last 16, are 10th in the Big East at 7-10, and have not strung consecutive victories since early January. Talk about a Bristol Bias.

And people talk about expanding this to 128. That will be a joke.

Yea, I thought for sure they'd be out of the running after losing to Providence last night.

This could be one of those at-large bids that leaves everyone shaking their heads. Personally... I hope Pitt whips them and finishes them off.

This is the kind of situation that drives me nuts about the NCAA Tournament selection process. A team like UCONN with their record and crappy performance has no business being in the NCAA Tournament. The selection committee will sell it as UCONN having played the #1 toughest schedule but schedule strength really is meaningless when you lose nearly all of those "tough" games.

Re: Lunardi - Bracketology - Apocalypse

I think I'd take either one - Duke or "Sparta" - as the one seed...we can out-play either one of those if we do what we've been doing all season.

It is ridiculous to still have UCONN as a secure lock...people have been saying all year that they have all this talent (they do) and they will just walk right in to the tournament...well, based on their record, I don't even see how they are off the bubble, to be honest. But then, if you have such a storied program with that much history, I guess you get a pass every now and then. One and done.

How crazy will it be if three out of four Final Four teams from last year don't even make the tournament?

I read an article, probably facetious, that made the case for just allowing everyone in, and, I have to say, it might be a better idea than keeping auto-bids for terrible conferences and slowly creeping towards 128.

There are currently 344 D1 teams (per Wikipedia); of those, 176 will play on Round 1 games, while the top 168 seeds (teehee) will get a bye. The next two rounds would get us from 256 teams to 64, and, viola, we've solved this entire issue (and put Jerry Palm out of a job) while only adding one extra week worth of games.

Ridiculous? Absolutely, but tell me you didn't consider it for at least a second.

Now that's crazy talk right there...next thing you know they'll do away with the BCS and go to a playoff system for football!!! (oh wait, that's actually a good idea...)

That would be horrible. Why bother even having a regular season at that point?

If anything the bracketologists would be MORE busy, figuring out how absolutely every team would get seeded.

Johnny always wanted to let everyone in. Although I don't know if he actually meant it. I liked 64, not a fan of the play in games, but whatever, I can handle a little more tourney.
