Big 12 coaching vs big ten coaching

On the b&b show in cr/ic they had a Nebraska journalist on that said the big 12 may have more athleticism, but the big ten has MUCH better coaching and the players have a MUCH higher basketball iq. Can one of you stat nerds ( no offense) please disprove this statement.

Surprised you took time away from the Sawyer Brown Band to listen to that hawkeye homer show. The Gym Class is good. Unash and Dukes will give ISU their props and have interviews from time to time. B and B is not good.

There are no stats that directly indicate a coach's ability. Maybe scoring efficiency after time-outs, the ability of a team to come from behind, or wins relative to scoring could be some sort of proxy measures???

What a dumb thing to argue about on the show, though; both leagues have amazing coaches. Self, Barnes, Kruger, and Gillispe have built up some impressive resumes, as have Izzo, Ryan, Smith, Painter, Crean, Beilein, and Matta. The Big 12 might have more younger "up-and-coming" coaches compared to the experience of the Big Ten, but that doesn't necessarily mean one conference is better than the other in that area.

Big 10 is good, except Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin, and about 6 other teams.

You were listening to a Nebraska show. They were just trying to justify why they suck as bad in big 10 play as they always did in Big 12 play.

    Dumbest

    Argument

    Ever!

Talk about the lamest way to justify your conference that I have ever heard of. Is that why kNU has only won 5 games? There coach isn't smart enough? Wow.

Justifying that the new conference is too tough makes me think of this guy:

Re: Big 12 coaching vs big ten coaching

I think Izzo and Self are a push. Kruger and... Bo Ryan? Drew and Crean? Both can recruit like mothers. Freddie and Matt Painter? Young and talented coaches. Martin and Matta? What about Hugs at WVU? Match up with Tubby? Gillespie and Beilein? As for the rest, who cares. Hired only to be fired.

    Overall, pretty even.

Would coaches winning % in the tourney be any kind of indication?

The same guy also said that there are many "empty possessions" in the big 12, and in the big ten there is no such thing as an "empty possession". ( that is not a direct quote, but it's pretty close)

Well 9 times out of 10 talent beats coaching so...

    Big 12 > Big 10.

Re: Big 12 coaching vs big ten coaching

Self and Izzo are tops. Probably a push. After that I would say Ryan, Crean, Bellein, and Matta are probably better than Barnes, BCG, Drew and Martin. Tubby and Kruger are both good, but maybe past their prime.

If we get to count Huggybear, he's better than Painter.

Fred and Fran- too early to say.

All in all, it's not crazy to say the Big Ten has better coaches. But it goes in cycles. 5 years ago people might have said Weber was a great coach, now he's more than likely going to be fired.
