    Surround sound speakers

Canton Movie 150 QX Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

I can get this set for ~$800. I've listened to them, and I thought they sounded great. Can anyone recommend a better set for $800 or less? Or does anyone have these and can recommend or discourage?

I second this. I've had two different Elemental Designs subs and they have both been great. I'm going to guess that 8" sub-woofer is not going to pressurize your room. Maybe if it was a 10x8 room it would be ok.

Lot's of movies these days have a good amount of audio content below 20hz. You are going to need a true sub-woofer to reproduce that. Some brands that come to mind are Elemental Designs, HSU Research, and Paradigm with Elemental Designs being one of the best "bang for your buck" brands.

</3>Fluance AVHTB+ Surround Sound Home Theater 5 Speaker System

The price of this speaker package went up (I was able to grab this set for $240 - including shipping from Canada), but I love these speakers. They sound great, look great, and I'm able to get a 5.0 surround system for under $300. The savings I got on this speaker package allows me to upgrade to a nicer sub-woofer that I can use when I upgrade to my "dream speaker package."

This set was reviewed on CNET also:

The only downside about this set is that the center channel is a little small, but you can order a larger center channel from Fluance for $100, which would give you a 6.0 system for right around $400.

    Re: Surround sound speakers

I would not buy an in a box satellite set. You would be better off with starting with a nice 3.1 set up then moving to a 5.1 later. 3.1 will give you great sound and you wont have to wire any rears yet. May end up liking the clean look of the 3.1 and never worrying abou the rest.

I like to go for great sounds while keeping it simple because it looks clean.

Double agree. Buy the speakers that you REALLY want, even if you can only buy a 2.1 or 3.1 setup to start with. This will prevent upgrade-itis from setting in within 6-12 months of purchase.
