An Open Letter to Cyclone Nation

An Open Letter to Cyclone Nation,
Let me preface this by saying that I am not calling anyone out in this letter. I’m just trying to make a few points about how I feel about being a fan.

I don't think we should slam people who want us to be ranked, are upset about the perception that we are on the bubble, or who think that the national "pundits" should be kinder to us. They care, they are passionate, they want the best for the Cyclones. That's what I've come to love about being a Cyclone, we all want the best for our program.

I also don't think we need to worry about where we are ranked right now (or in the future), I'm not worried about whether we are on the "bubble" right now, and I certainly don't care about what people outside of Cyclone Nation have to say about us at this point. Being a Cyclone is not about how other's feel about you, it's about being proud of what our teams are doing, not about what others are saying about us.

I do care about how the Cyclones are performing! While we can debate until our faces turn blue about who is dissing us, what fouls went against us, why we don't have full stadiums, when will we or do we even need an addition to the SEZ, what's up with Cyclone Alley, which dorm is the best, or any number of other things, what can not be debated is that Cyclone athletics is in a renaissance. We have some amazing athletes in our midst. We have some amazing coaches on our sidelines. We have some amazing fans on our sidelines. This is a wonderful time to be a Cyclone!

In the end I guess what I am saying is that I'm happy that there is passion on these threads. I'm happy that these discussions actually have some relevance. I am ecstatic that the Cyclones are relevant! I would just hope that our posts would more often reflect that fact. We'll always have trolls, we'll always have obnoxious fans from other schools, and there will always be a small minority of our fan base that wants to stir things up, but let's remember that most of us are a member of an elite fan base. We cheer our teams no matter what. We understand the limitations of our situation, but we are so proud of the accomplishments of our programs despite those obstacles. We shouldn't need national recognition, we shouldn't need affirmation, and we don't need to look for a reason to be a Cyclone fan. We just are. That's what makes us the best fans in the country.

I love the passion, I love how much people care about our teams, I love the effort that I see the students putting forth on the field/court/stadium/whatever to make us proud, I love the coaches/managers/administrators who are doing their best to elevate our programs, and I love the fact that fans of Iowa State will always be fans of Iowa State through good times and bad. These are good times. I believe that they are only going to get better. I would only ask that we all just look on the bright side, that while we might occasionally disagree, that others outside of our fan base might try to upset us, and while we might not get the respect that we deserve from the media, we are better than them. We are Cyclones!

End rant. Thanks for reading. Go Cyclones!!!

I will slam the supposed experts when I want to. Why? I have a strong dislike of biases and also dislike not looking at athletics objectively.

This website would be INSANELY boring without some bashing of people. Yeah we probably should be nicer but eh it is what it is.

Re: An Open Letter to Cyclone Nation

Are you trying to **** people off? What gives you the right to tell everyone how to behave and what to worry and not worry about as a fan?

If I want ISU to be ranked that is okay. You or anyone else doesn't have the right to tell me that's not right or I shouldn't worry about it. If I want to start a discussion about it that's okay too. Feel free to leave your comments, everyone else does and that's okay.

If I feel a sports analyst is being cruel and unjust to ISU by calling them a bubble team when I feel they are a lock its okay that I post that in a thread and partake in a conversation with other posters. They don't have to agree, but no one, including you has the right to post this bull **** letter telling me not too.

    Totally inappropriate.
