    Gottlieb puts Iowa in

Before anyone freaks out, this isn't a "Gottlieb hates ISU, I hate Gottlieb" thread. He said he was putting them in because they swept Wisconsin (okay, I understand that) but also because they swept Minnesota? How is that an accomplishment? Minnesota is 17-11, sure (about to be 17-12 if this IU game holds up) and 5-10 in conference (about to be 5-11). So what makes them so valuable in the win category? What makes them any better of a win then, say, us beating Texas? Is it just the lovefest for the Big Ten? Do people still think Tubby Smith is a great coach? Or am I just missing something?

    Re: Gottlieb puts Iowa in

Iowa has to win out plus probably win 2 in the Big 10 Tourney to get in. I hope he knows that.

    Re: Gottlieb puts Iowa in

Iowa's had some good wins. The things is they have had some bad losses and a pretty easy schedule to boot. Really think they have to win 20 games to get in.

Iowa has an RPI of 126; the only chance they have is if they win the big 10 tournament. I really think the Big 10 network pays gotlieb to say crap like this to push interest in btn games. Two of iowa's last 3 games are on btn.

I can see this. But yes, I think Iowa has to win out and win 2 games in the Big 10 Tourney to get in. I actually see them losing today though.

    Re: Gottlieb puts Iowa in

With Iowa's current RPI at about 125, no way. Their last 3 games against Illinois, Nebraska and Northwestern cant increase it all that much, plus they are looking at best at a 6th seed in the Big 10 Tourney (assuming they win out). That would put them in their first game against Nebraska probably, then Ohio State (3 seed), then Michigan (2 seed), then Michigan State (1 seed), assuming all the top seeds win their games in the Big 10 Tourney. I would think they would HAVE to at least beat Ohio State in the quarterfinals via a 7-game winning streak to be considered a "bubble team". If they beat Michigan in the semi-finals riding an 8-game wining streak, I think they would almost have to be in at that point.

I think the hawks win out but do not do much in the B1G tourney. Maybe win 1 game, and get snubbed by the NCAA's and get a NIT bid.

I have a feeling I am overestimating the hawks just a tad but their last 2 are winnable.

74 (stealing that from Storming on HN). Here is what I said there:

"Which is why I still don't think that winning out and winning a first round game in the BTT will let us in. Gonna have to beat MSU or OSU in the 2nd round to get it even close to that number. Even then, it's bubble. Win all the way to the BTT championship and we have a real good chance of getting in.

Yikes, that's a LOT of wins in a row."

Today's game will be tough for them. Illinois is athletic and Iowa doesn't match up well with athletic teams. I also think they lose to NW at home.

    Re: Gottlieb puts Iowa in

Let me clarify, he did say they'd have to win their last three games of the season, but said he felt they were easily winnable games for them. The other guy was saying TCU would be in and they got in an argument with Gottlieb saying TCU's best road win was Duquesne, while the other guy said, yeah, but Iowa lost to Campbell.
