    "Quality Road Wins"

Some reasoning as to why ISU hasn't met this criteria for Jerry Palm -- even if it appears that he's using criteria to match his opinion rather than matching his opinion to the criteria.

Iowa State's Road Games this year followed by the opponent's RPI:

    Drake.......133.....L
    Mich.........10......L
    A&M.........166....W
    KU.............6......L
    Tech.........226...W
    Tex...........55.....L
    OU............113...W
    OSU..........109....L
    Bay............8......L

    Notice anything?

We all already know it but for much of the season the Big 12 has been considered a good conference but very top heavy. Missouri, Kansas, and Baylor were the "Big 3" at the top of the charts and have many times been the only ranked teams in the league and all being in the Top 10 or better.

Iowa State, Texas, and Kansas State are the next 3 teams and are really the only "mid-level" RPI teams. ISU cannot play itself (obscure rule) and doesn't play K-State until tomorrow.

Here's the point...when your road games are against either top 10 teams (that have all been losses) or teams with 100+ in the RPI it is hard to have a "quality road win". Texas and Oklahoma State (border line) are the only two opportunities to date for a solid road win. The Drake loss hurts but that was a loooooonnnggg time ago.

And, most obviously, when Jerry is pointing out why ISU is very borderline he says that games aren't played in Ames. Great. But they aren't played on the home floors for other teams either. They are nuetral games.

When he says that teams need to show they are tournament quality on the road to be an at large team, I agree. But does that mean those teams have to win? Consider the 9 point loss in Lawrence where ISU had a double digit lead for well over half the game. Add that to the previously mentioned fact that ISU has had either not so great or top 10 teams for opponents on the road and the availability for "quality road wins" isn't that prominent.

Losers whine about their best. Winners go home an **** the prom queen.

I think it's fairly easy to see why we're not a lock for the Dance. We have a decent resume, but not one that is a lock at this point. There are 4+ games left in which we can play ourselves into "lock" territory or closer to the outside looking, depending on how they unfold.

When we beat OU, their RPI was 70. At the time, that road win was a quality one.

    I don't think we're a lock right now, either.

Jerry said last night if ISU loses at K-State and at Mizzou but beats Baylor at home that they'd still have work to do. That is a joke.

While I don't disagree that teams need to play "tournament quality ball away from home" it isn't like this team is losing by 30 for every road trip. They've pretty much beaten the teams they are supposed to on the road.

    Re: "Quality Road Wins"

That is the issue. Just because a team doesn't win in WACO, Lawrence, or Colombia means they don't belong in? It doesn't make sense to say, you have to beat the top 3 teams in the league on the road or you don't get in. By that logic does Missouri have to win at KU to get in? Baylor didn't win at Mizzou or KU either and they lost at home to K State.

It is backward logic and it is stupid.

Oh, I disagree with that. I think one more win in our last 4, regardless of where it takes place is enough to lock us in.

Bottom line is that I don't see us losing 4 straight, so I see us in the tourney.

Didnt someone do analysis and find there's not much correlation between road success and success in the tourney?

Let's just beat KSU or Missouri (or both!) and this won't be a discussion anymore

At 15-13 Jerry probably thinks Iowa is a lock to get in. Jerry is a ******* moron.

The only RPI that matters is their current RPI.

I think I may have said that in another thread, but then couldn't find the actual analysis, so I'm not sure.

That was my thinking as well. Palm said ISU needs to prove they can play away from Ames. Just because we don't win a game doesn't mean we cant play. Its not like we are going into games away from Ames and getting the **** kicked out of us.
