    Refs bad view of gameplay...

Taking this from a previous thread, I think it deserves its own discussion. Someone (defending the stripes of course) said that refs just can't see the action as well as us in the nosebleed section or watching on TV. So then why the heck are they down on the court? Maybe they need to be stuck in a booth watching the game on TV and they can come out of there is a call to make. Or a head official that watches the game from a higher angle in the stands and communicates down to the stripes that can't see the game from court level. Thoughts? Comments? BTW, I am super cereal here.

Since you're calling me out on it, why don't you actually attempt officiating at any level and then we can talk. Mmmmkay? If officiating was as easy as people make it out to be, everyone would do it because it's great money. There are a lot of calls the referee will see better than anyone else, and there are other calls the referees are going to have a crappy angle.

Now if you could point out where I said it was a certainty that the guys in stripes can't see it as well, could you please point that out? And if you could also watch the gif of the flop and tell me which referee has the responsibility of making that call, that would also be great.

Easy man, not calling anyone out. If I wanted to I would have used your name. I am trying to get some input on a topic that is more than valid. I don't ref so why the heck would I think that it is hard to see things up close like that?

The whole 'if you could do it better' thing is bogus. I'm no great chef, but i can go to a restaurant and tell you if the food tastes like **** or not.

Not sure what call is being talked about but the ref at the bottom of the picture has a clear view of the flop.

Why don't you become a food critic if you think you can tell if food tastes like **** or not?

He can see depth dimension watching it live? How does he know the shooter's knee didn't get McGee in the back? He may have very well thought there was contact but didn't blow his whistle because the shooter initiated the contact. The other trail (whose arm you see signaling the three pointer) also has the same problem. There isn't a clear call there to make.

Now if someone is driving the lane and you have the cross view where the offensive player stops a foot away while the defender topples, easy call.

Because not everything you have an ability to do becomes your profession?

The "trailing" ref that rotates back to under the basket on the other side of the court is out of the frame is this shot but would have had a good look at this as well. I've seen refs make ridiculous calls through traffic from all the way across the court before, so I don't think "responsibility" has much to do with it.

Last night's officials were no better or no worse than most of what we've seen this year. Tech's flopping however was on a new level of bad.

So...does this all mean that having a head ref somewhere above the action for a better angle is out of the question? I don't think it is that unreasonable at all. Use him like a spotter, just to make sure that a bad angle does not totally swing the momentum of a game.

So if they can't do it then they need to find a new profession. Their only job in the world is to call the game right. If 15k can see somthing then they should see something as well. I have floor seats and I see missed call all of the time. No way they should be missing such calls as flops. They are right there.

I'd wager 72% of things you think should be called from your floor seats are probably not correct.
