    Student Ticket Redemption Rate: 39%

The total redemption of student tickets over the course of the season has been 39%, meaning 61% of student tickets have gone unused. The highest redemption game was Iowa at 59%, the only one over 50%. Kansas was right at 50%.

The Athletics Department is aware of the issue and working on ideas for fixes. Two that they were discussing include removing the Cyclone Alley t-shirt requirement for sitting in the lower student sections, and overselling student tickets. One idea that they were clear to snuff out right away is shrinking the student section. They do not want to take away more student seats.

A friend of mine in GSB told me these numbers after Jamie Pollard had met with the GSB president about this issue and he had shared with the Senate. I know this is a popular topic on CF and thought everyone should know that their e-mails to JP have not gone to waste

That is honestly even worse then I would have guessed. Absolutely pathetic for this team. Do you have any idea how many students bought season tickets and never picked them up?

Paper tickets for easy transfer at no additional cost.

Since the tickets sold there's not a huge incentive to reducing student seats (the rest of Hilton isn't sold out). The AD just needs to figure out how to get the students to either show up (winning helps...winning helps) or be able to easily pass their tickets off to a friend at no cost.

Why not shrink CA? Better yet, go back to the way it was during Hilton's glory years.

You can still call the student section Cyclone Alley, but don't have any requirements. Its just a student section. I've always been more on the side that the team performance was more of an issue than CA, but it is just terrible this year. And something absolutely needs to be done to fix it.

Its just plain dumb when the game is sold out, and less than 50% of the students show up.

Year or two of good basketball and amazingly these problems will go away. One year isn't going to fix 6 years of brutal basketball. Keep building.

High paying donors are not going to give up seats. Not going to happen IMO.

Kansas was only 50%? It didn't look that low at the game, pretty shocking. I had said before that I thought overselling was an awful idea, but if that's all the better attendance has been, it might be something they have to do. I still wonder how they'd handle it if student turnout suddenly improved next year though.

Yea, but you'd think it would already be a little better than this. As a student, is it just too easy to have tickets? I wonder if they just take it for granted.

Right now basketball isn't a priority. Throw in the fact that this is a week heavy with midterms and a terrible team coming into Hilton on a Wednesday night and that's a recipe for disaster.

I have a feeling the Baylor game will be packed. I also think the AD needs to utilize their e-mail more along with CA. You have everyone's contact information, send them an e-mail each week and remind people "Hey, there's a game Wednesday. Be there." They've done so once but when you just send it once a year it doesn't have much effect.

Most importantly, win a few basketball games. Kansas is the only ranked team since I started in 07-08 to fall in Hilton Coliseum. Adults can't understand why Hoiberg doesn't have any pull with students. That's because this fall's freshman weren't even born yet when he was playing.

That's what it was like when I was there - KU and either Iowa or TTU (Bobby Knight!!!) were the lottery games where you had to pick up a separate ticket. Past a certain date, the remaining tickets were sold to the general public.

Also, I'd push to have CA under only one basket, general student admission under the other one. More incentive to fill the lower levels on both sides, plus you get rid of the "Cyclone Alley is killing Fred Hoiberg" complaints.

Re: Student Ticket Redemption Rate: 39%

Now that you can track individual usage give them incentives. Perhaps have a requirement for CA that you had to attend 75% of games the previous year.

Or, for big games you could do assigned seating like they used to do. Base the order to pick up on attendance of the non-conference. Then if they don't pick up tickets at least a week in advance, you can sell them to the public.

Re: Student Ticket Redemption Rate: 39%

Those numbers seem really low based on the eye test, unless upper deck student section has a lot more seats than the parquet student section. Parquet student section was totally full for Iowa, UNI, and pretty much every conference game except the last two.
