Are they sure they don't want Soriano too?

Seems like the price tag was a little on the hefty side for the Cubs, but by no means devestating.

No way! The Cubs most defiantly got the better deal here, and its really not even close. They give up a reliever with potential, but a reliever who is also been pretty injury prone. The Red Sox got the raw end of this deal...

My starting point is that I think it's dumb that the Cubs have to give up any players at all for hiring front-office personnel. Epstein broke his contract with the Sox, therefore it should be a matter of contract damages, i.e. a monetary penalty, that Epstein owes to the Sox (provided the Sox can prove damages, which is another issue). As the Cubs, I'm happy to cover any monetary losses Epstein suffers as a result, and if I'm Epstein, I insist the Cubs cover such losses as a condition to accepting the job. But the part where each team's players are getting mixed up in this just doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like it should be a monetary issue, period.

I think it's pretty fair for both sides. The Sox shouldn't have been expecting some prime prospect in return.

    I agree 100%.

The fact that they originally asked for players like Garza and Brett Jackson makes it even more ridiculous.

    Re: Cubs-Red Sox Compensation

The sad thing is, even though this was (in the end) settled by the two teams, baseball would be a much better sport and probably gain many more fans if Bud Selig was not the President. He shows his bias for the Brewers just as often as Obama shows his love for the White Sox. I feel if this were a Brewers-Red Sox deal, Brewers would've gotten off much easier. I also think Selig is going to find a way to reduce Braun's suspension.

I disagree. I think Selig has done a good job overall in really one of the most controversial times baseball has seen. MLB in general has done well under his watch.

Glad this if finally behind the Cubs and Red Sox. I think the Cubs did okay on this and it could have been a lot more painful. Red Sox fans are probably a little unhappy.

Actually, it's not totally over yet. The Cubs and Sox also agreed to swap players to be named later... for some reason...

The PTBNL are to constitue an official trade since executives cannot be traded for players.
(It needed to be transacted as a trade)

In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
