Does NCAA ever appear to set up interesting match-up?

Just wondering if anyone knows of the NCAA intentionally setting up newsworthy match-up for the tournament? I know that they claim to not take those sorts of things into account, but it would be interesting to see an ISU vs. North Carolina or an ISU vs. Creighton game as a possibility...

Seems like there is a game like that every year that you wonder if it was done on purpose for the intrigue. I cannot think of any specifics off the top of my head, but seem to recall KU and UNC were set up in the same bracket not long after Huckleberry left.

They won't ever admit to it but yes, of course they do. I'm sure they occasionally slide someone up or down 1 seed to make things interesting. Personally I am fine if they pass on the "interesting" matchup between us and UNC. Now Creighton? Fine by me.

The most common match up that I've seen seems to be a hot double digit seed team that is perhaps seen as a sleeper getting matched up against a big name team that stumbled into the tournament.

    ISU vs UNC
    ISU vs Michigan State
    ISU vs Southern Miss
    ISU vs Creighton
To a lesser degree. ISU vs Middle Tenn State.

Would all make interesting matchups from an ISU standpoint.

you could do that for about 45 other teams. it just seems "interesting" to us. that's why people think the ncaa does this intentionally, which is impossible given the time crunch to put the brackets together.

its easy to find stories when 60 coaches change jobs every year, 400 players transfer, and all the overlap with recruiting.

Dang, I can't believe that I forgot about Michigan State! That would have so many story lines that it would be ridiculous! Southern Miss as well. I haven't paid attention to where they are being projected, will have to do some research...

Good summary — this thread echoes a similar question in a thread from Monday.

Does the committee like to create interest this way?

That would be a great match up, in the sweet sixteen or so. I'd love to have two teams to root for in the tournament for at least a little while.
