Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

The best talent appears to be Brandon Sorensen and Jake Marlin, but will we pursue them hard with with Gabe Moreno and Destin McCauley just coming in.

I think we need a heavyweight bad and maybe go for Doug Miner for a future 125 pounder (if he ever grows).

197 - Reth would be great if we don't get Ross Larson.

buf I completely agree with everything you have said. I think Miner is going to Minnesota. He was decked out in Gopher gear last night.

Marlin or Sorenson would be nice tog get. I think I would rather have Marlin. Definitely agree about Hwt. though, I wish we could get Bevins to wrestle that guy is a stud.

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

Miner attends JRobs camps in the summer. I'm wondering why he cut down to 106. He wrestled half the year at 113.

Colton McCrystal hit a heck of a move to create a scramble to win the match, but I felt Georgia boy Kyle Springer was the better wrestler of the two.

Nick Georgean will go to Iowa if they want him

Loren Williams: another Iowa fan, was hoping to see a more dominant performance from his in the finals

Erik Lux's brother Kyle wrestles for UNI

Adam Reth is an ISU fan, would have also like to see a more dominant performance from him too to show hes a d1 kid

Cade Jones not sure he is d1 kid, but was the most excited kid after he won a state title. That is what mades the Iowa state tournament great

Jake Marlin is rumored to want go to Oklahoma State
Brandon Sorenson- UNI makes a lot of sense, but Wolfensperger had a rough spell of it for a little while there.
After Sorenson won his first state title I thought he was really going to be something special, but he has since slowed down a little. He and Marlin both did not have the greatest off season last year with both not placing at Fargo and taking some other loses. I don't think either of these two will be as good of recruits as Meeks or Clark and wouldn't be too concerned if we are not in the running for them.

State of Iowa is thin the next two years so we will have to find some kids from out of state

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

We need a heavyweight bad, might have to go with another Juco transfer there once Gibson graduates.

After that it would be nice to a decent 125 guy in the pipeline who would have two years to develop before taking over for Finch as a redshirt sophomore. Same at 149 and 157, getting to the point where we can give guys a redshirt year and then a year or two of being a solid backup before hitting the mat full time will be nice.

I've changed my tune on Meeks after all the articles and interviews from this past weekend. I now think he is a guy who can benefit greatly from having a redshirt year of low pressure and development before hitting the mat for us in 2013. He's earned some time to relax just a little bit.

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

I agree that John could use a year to not have any pressure and wrestling some open tourneys. That's why I'd like to have Thorn, because I don't want 133 to be a weight we give up bonus points all the time.

And John Meeks needs time to get a drivers license! I can't believe he don't have one yet.

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

My priorities are 285 and 197.

    285
Gibson a senior and Swope doesn't appear to be ready for D1 heavy yet and Quean not in Ames and borderline grades.

    197
Gadsen is going to be a risk his whole eligibility as far as health and Shafer is not a 197 pounder yet.

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

I would say next year we go after a few national blue chippers now we have started to get some depth. HWT and 197 are my major concerns also another 149/157/165er are always useful. I think Larson will fit in at 125 after Ryak.

Re: Top Iowa recruits next year

Waiting to get answers on Tyler Caldwell and Ross Larson would feel holes/provide depth at 165 and 197.

Is there any good heavyweights out there? Quean Smith is the unknown answer there.

Maybe we look at Edwin Cooper at Iowa Central; he's ranked #1 at 149 and was a top recruit out of Illinois last year.
