    ACT score

I'm taking the ACTs soon and I was wondering what a good score would be to target for. What kind of score would one need to be eligible for good scholarships for Iowa State?

Haha I wish I could score that high. Took it last year as a sophomore and scored a 32 so maybe with a few good guesses.

Take the PSAT and try to become an National Merit Scholar.

To be competitive for an purely academic scholarship you'll need an ACT score in the 30's.

I wish someone would have told me about the PSAT before. The way our teacher explained it it was just a practice for the ACTs and since I already took the ACTs once it seemed pointless. And then I by the time I figured out how important it would have been it was too late. Stupid guidance counselor.

Academic scholarships are subjective and political. I scored a 30, several points higher than my siblings, and they received a LOT more free money than I did, and we all attended ISU.

No, I'm not bitter at all...

I had a 32 on the ACT and got little for scholarships from Iowa State.

Yep, same situation when I was in school.

I feel your pain. I got told the same thing, therefore I was out of contention. Probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, my class had a bunch of smart folks in it. I think I scored a 34 on the ACT and got a few scholarships. Not a huge amount, they must save those for the 36's!

    Re: ACT score

The only time ACT score mattered when it came to scholarships that I am aware of was for out of state kids. The get the ACE (award for competitive excellence) and your ACT puts you in different money levels.

Has this changed? I thought if you were ranked in the top half of your graduating class, you didn't need a 21. At least, when I graduated HS that's how it was. I think I got like a 19 on my ACT but was ranked really high in my class and got in. I was going to retake it, but after finding out I didn't need to, I didn't.
