    Illinois off bubble?

Illinois is 1-7 in their last 8 games.

They also have 3 remaining games with ranked teams. I think it's safe to say they have fallen off the bubble.

And Weber is most likely gone as well, especially after calling out his players by name after the game tonight.

    Re: Illinois off bubble?

OSU, MSU, Mich, Indiana, Wisc, and Purdue are looking "in" as of now for the Big Ten. Six teams. Minnesota, Illinois, and Northwestern all will have opportunities to prove their worth down the stretch, but seem to be going in the wrong direction and will have a LOT of work to do if they want to make it.

    Re: Illinois off bubble?

Northwestern is 5-8 in the league with a couple games against ranked teams....
Their 3 winnable games are Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State... No real chance to make up with any big wins either.

Minnesota has games against 3 ranked teams as well.. They are 5-8 in the league now.

These teams could easily all fall off the bubble. Time to start cheering hard for the top dogs in the Big 10.

I know the Big 12 has nothing to brag about, but the Big 10 looks weak in general this year. Is there any conference that looks lights out this year?

Yep Weber is done. Think Chris Collins will be a candidate there? Don't know if he will leave Duke though. I know some Illini fans would like Shaka Smart as well.

That's a pretty good job for a coach to get.

Self is the one who has made that gig work in the last 30 years.

Top heavy leagues and a lot of mediocre teams the rest of the way... makes for a lot of nervous bubble teams.

Doubt they go the assistant route. The guy I want is either Buzz Williams from Marquette or Anthony Grant from Alabama.

What are you talking about? Lou Henson and Lon Kruger also made that gig work as well. Illinois is a top 20 job in the country. Great fan base, good facilities, Chicago is right in your backyard. No reason why they can't consistently compete for Big Ten titles.

Lou Henson was all right, even a Final Four appearance.

Maybe change that to the last 15-20 years?

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Re: Illinois off bubble?

I don't think Illinois, Northwestern, or Minnesota will, or should, make the tourney. Looking at their skeds, the most I think any of them will win is 2 out of the last 5, putting them at 7-11 in conference. Unless one of them gets on a streak in conf. tourney they shouldn't make it.

For Buzz Williams its a step down but for Anthony Grant its a lateral move.....

I don't think your giving Illinois enough credit.

    Illinois
    Solid basketball conference
    Basketball is king school
8 NCAA bids in 10 years (average 5.5 seed), 1 conference title
15 NCAA bids in 20 years (average 5.7 seed), 3 conference titles
23 NCAA bids in 30 years (average 4.9 seed), 4 conference titles

    Marquette
    Top basketball conference (since 2005)
    Basketball is king school
8 NCAA bids in 10 years (average 6.5 seed), 1 Conference USA title
12 NCAA bids in 20 years (who cares), not sure on titles
13 NCAA bids in 30 years (who cares), not sure on titles

    Alabama (hahahahaha)
    Lesser basketball conference
"What, we have a basketball team? When does spring football practice start"
5 NCAA bids in 10 years, 1 Conference title
8 NCAA bids in 20 years, 1 Conference title
17 NCAA bids in 30 years, 2 Conference titles

So, clearly over the last 10 years, Marquette and Illinois are equals. Over the last 20 years, Illinois holds a huge edge. Bama hasn't had near the success since the 80. Marquette has been a little more successful in the last 6 years (since they joined Big East). Attendence is almost identical.

How you can say Marquette is a step up from Illinois and that Alabama is equal to Illinois is pretty funny.

i can't believe that so many Big 10 teams are still in the discussion. Might as well include Iowa if Minnesota is on the bubble... geeeez
